Nevermind 😞

I'm imaging up some coins for a friend from the NGC forum when I noticed on this 1952-D it appears that the mintmark is doubled. Having no record of any 1952-D RPM's this is what I believe to be the first one, a new discovery. Here's some pics of this coin for you all to take a look.
Thank you in advance for looking, Joe

    Isn't that just strike doubling?

    I'm pretty sure it isn't.

It may not be a "new" discovery albeit no die markers to confirm its RPM 3 either.

Looks just like any RPM I've seen only this one is bold.

VV 003 (Wexlers 004) the underlying mint mark is to the west of the main one as in:

I'm thinking this the OP's coin may be DDD (Die Deterioration Doubling) as you can see the same effect on the letters of AMERICA. You see the MM in the Wexlers picture I included shows the same thing. From die wear the metal flow makes the letters migrate toward the rim.

I’m sure as hell no expert when it comes to varieties. I very much appreciate the help I’m getting. It’s all very well received.

    It looks like strike doubling.

I would need to get a better image of the mint-mark. But it does appear the top serif is split (left top) in addition to die deterioration to the right of the "D". Can you get a little light on the top left hand side of the "D" to see if there is indeed a split serif?

I’ll do my best the next time I go back to work in my den.
Thanks again for all the help. It’s very much appreciated.

    Hi Joe.
For your sake, I do hope you're right.
What I noticed in the Jefferson series. Many mint mark's appear doubled, esp '64. However, many are just md.
    Thanks for sharing. ;)

My money is on a RPD, and a pretty nice one.

I would feel RPM and as stated, pretty nice one. I would definitely send it to Dr. Wiles. I know supposedly he's retired, but I believe he will still take emails with pics and tell you what to do.

Not sure why you have titled this 'Nevermind'.... Based on the pictures, enlarged, it does look like an RPM... Cheers, RickO

Looking at liberty’s mechanical/strike doubling, I’d say mechanical doubling on the mint mark. 🤷‍♂️
