Does first strike make any difference in the registry?

And if not, what is the thought process for those that only want first strike and pay the premium price?

I do not think so, as to the thought process your guess is as good as mine.

Why do people pay up for any marketing fluff?

The whole “first strike” thing is a total farce.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Ah..but your all wrong...in the Lincoln series - we now must have the "Birth Set" label (PCGS coin # 853268) and not any other proof label - for our 2021 proofs - so I am assuming this is a PCGS marketing approach to make those who think the silly labels are not worth collecting are getting them shoved down our throats anyway....just saying

There are specific sets that are for First Strike only, like modern First Spouses...and those are hated by many too. LOL

So, you requested the other "pcgs numbers" for the slot and it was refused?
The thought process is simple, some people collect them and pay more for them, so it is usually worth getting them graded that way.
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
This is one of those questions I would like to understand more about. There seems to be a lot of discussion about the "First Strike" label and the additional premium that comes with it during sale. I think it's for a registry area I do not participate in and personally I do not care if there is a First Strike label on my coin. Is it worth the $18/coin to have a FS label? The additional risk of sending in sealed boxes with coins unseen. I don't really know but I do know that I just paid over a hundred dollars in FS add on fees for something I do not really need. One positive note however is that the grading time seems to be moving much much faster for my recent FS submission than my previous non-FS submissions.
Correct
I have two 2021 proofs and it only allows the one coin (Birth Set PCGS coin # 853268 in the sets. My other proof (Which is a first day issue PCGS # 861921) is rejected. It is only allowed in the 1909 - to date basic proof set.

Interesting - I was getting an error messages to access my sets and now - all of a sudden- I get this. Looks like they may have just added the first strike label as allowable - but its still a novelty label coin. AND I have one in my inventory and it does not show in the add list. Maybe they are working on it?? I hope so.

When I get a rejection for a coin that should be allowable in a slot, I call and talk directly to a live CSR.
They eventually add the coin ( in your case a 2021 FDOI) into the drop down menu. You can see allowable coins using the "What If " function.
The 2021 proof coin sets are really screwed up as to wither a coin is now required, allowable or not.
I have many Kennedy sets where some sets require the 2021 proof coins now and others have a slot for the coin but they are not calculated into the sets overall set ranking, grade level and or rating level when added.
These issues are usually addressed by February of the next year ( 2022 in this case).
IMO, No labels should affect a set Ranking.
Check out these sets and their overall grade and GPA with Top POP Bonuses columns.

Just a note to all, PCGS set registry is currently running fixes and updates which can affect your set viewing and updating of sets.
I spoke to them this morning about 10:30 am EST.
