What is happening with this Lincoln

He ended up in the reject bin of my local Coin Star. Looks like it was hit and dished but there is no surface
flattening. There is also a ridge similar to the Belly line on a Bust Planchet before it hits the Castaing machine. Line goes all the way around.
Any insight is appreciated.

High heat can "dish" a zinc cent like that.
The saucer shape is so perfect
It would blow my mind to just use heat
Maybe it was set on something smooth and round and slightly domed, about the size of a dime, and then that thing was heated...
I tried to quickly duplicate it.

I think I got it too hot!
You can see how it started to dish before I melted it. I may try again or I may not.....I don't have money to burn.
interesting. mine is for sure rather Dark..... don't see any other distortion
Interesting - never heard of that before. I hit a zincoln with the welding torches once and it just started evaporating but that was temps well over 3000 degrees.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Zinc melting point = 787F/420C
Copper melting point = 1984F/1085C
You can melt the zinc by holding the coin with pliers and putting in the flame of a gas stove. Be careful not to hold it in too long or the molten zinc can drip onto the stove surface (as a budding young "scientist"I learned that the hard way, and my mother wasn't pleased with my experimental results)
Thank you Mr. Wizard. I used to love watching Don Herbert on TV. Peace Roy

I have never tried to heat a zincoln.... probably will not in the future. I would be surprised though, if it were to dish like the cent in the OP.... And no, I do not have any other suggestion for how it happened. Cheers, RickO
A little better results from much less heat.
You can see how it started to dish but I pulled it from the heat too soon, didn't want another melt down.
