J.Wiener Cathedral Medals, need help confirming if legit medals or cast

KnellKnell Posts: 455 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was out of town when I saw a bunch of J.Wiener Cathedral medals listed on eBay but did not buy any because I can't tell if the medal is legit or cast on a cellphone screen. I'm home now and reviewed most of the sellers listing and they all look like cast to me (comparing to my J.Wiener collections). Almost bought St. Paul Cathedral in Rome but when I checked this morning it was sold to best offer (I'm kind of thankful I did not offer to buy while I was out of town). I'm still interested on St. Stephen Cathedral in Austria but I would like experts opinion before I pull a trigger on this one. Please look at sellers few listing (19 medals listed).
Thanks.

Thanks again. (Let me know if anyone interested on sellers listing link on eBay)

Agreed. I saw them as well. They almost have a "porcelain" look to them.

Might just be the seller manipulating the images, but . . . . .

Those surfaces look very off compared to the glossy ones I’m used to seeing. So much so that they even look generally less impressive than what I associate with them, and usually I’m floored by their intricate detail and perspective.

I saw those, too. They are almost certainly cast IMO.

They look like they were recently minted.

They all look off, not quit right. The scans, that's what they look like to me, are so bright and over exposed.
The background of the all of the legends/lettering appears to be brighter than the surrounding area,
with a sharp boundary. Everything seems weak, not defined. Just my thoughts.

I'd stay away too. they have an odd granular or "sandblasted" look to them and the details don't look as sharp as I would expect.

Thanks for the comment. Thankfully I did not buy Italy's St. Paul cathedral viewing from a small cellphone screen even with my glasses on.

Just based on the images, I would not buy any of those. They do not look authentic. Cheers, RickO

The 1st thing I noticed is they just don't appear to have the depth or 3D effect.

These could be the cathedral trial casting from medals posted above or part of the listing. These are actually selling more (@ $350 each plust $20 shipping +tax). Different seller but looks like from same city and country on both seller
