Your thoughts about this 1916P Mercury Dime. NGC Slab picture in my last post.

What do you see on the obverse of this coin if anything? Would it straight grade at PCGS.
.
Thanks.

I believe that it would straight grade, at PCGS, but that toning or discoloration is unattractive.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I think it would straight grade, might even be full bands. I agree with the above though, not a very attractive coin.
Splotchy
I vote yes, either as a 63FB or 64FB.
What did NGC grade it?
Agree... I think it would straight grade, but I'm not a fan of the toning either

What's that little curve on the lower back part of the helmet where it meets the field? It looks like raised metal.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
An interesting blend of attractive luster especially on the obverse and unattractive splotchy toning.
The reverse side has less but still reasonably attractive luster but with no obvious negative toning.
I would grade this coin a PCGS MS-62 but should not CAC sticker. NGC could go as high as an overgraded MS-64.
I see nothing noteworthy about it. I do not like the toning if that's what it is. I think it would straight grade but no better than a 62 IMO.
63/4ish, FB.
I think it should grade but isn’t attractive. The only issue I could see (and I’m not sure this is the case) is if pcgs decided the existing color is environmental damage, toning that is etched in to the extent that it remains after a dip.
Ugly toning (that probably would not dip out) on a common date Mercury dime. Looks AU. I would pass on it.
I would give it AU58 to MS61.... Unattractive (and that is complimentary) splotchy tarnish...Cheers, RickO
Since you asked, I’m going to have to agree with most of the other folks commenting here in that, I am not a fan of the splotchy toning, and though there is some luster in the coin, it is not a clean enough example to chase- unless of course, one is assembling a set of similarly blotchy coins.
Dipping out toning this dark and blotchy is not often fruitful IMO.

My thoughts about the coin. You will notice that the tone starts at about 11 o'clock and ends at about 7 o'clock and only through the fields. The cheek has no tone which seems strange to me. When you look at the cheek it has light stain which looks like tone was removed. I think someone used full strength dip applied to that area with a Q Tip to remove tone that was present making the cheek a little dull. Luster is still present on the cheek. Anyway NGC called the dime cleaned which some people would say is true and some people would say is not true. My feeling is that the coin is not cleaned but over dipped thus making the grade low mint state or even AU 58. Picture of slab follows.
