I saw mentions of Bird maybe being the GOAT if....

I saw mentions of Jordan maybe winning 8 in a row if...

I saw mentions of the Rockets if....

What about if Magic hadn't gotten HIV and retired at 31 (but for a few games 4 or 5 years later)? What would Magic and the Lakers have done? Might have changed all 3 of the above.

    What happened with Mattingly?

Supposedly his back injury that derailed his career was incurred while wrestling in the dugout/clubhouse.

Bird, without the back problems wouldn't have even really been aging. I think his prime would have extended.

Bird was one of the most principled, smart, players to ever play the game. Teams like the C's and B's would be a joy to watch these days given the sloppy play going on......

What if Bob Stanley got the last out against the New York Mets in the 6th game of the 1986 World Series.

What if Gene Mauch had not tried close out the NL title early in 1964.

What if Knute Rockne had not been killed in a plan crash in 1931 and continued at ND until the age of 65? That would have been an additional 22 seasons or thereabouts...

Another great what if is what if Bud Wilkinson had not entered the political arena and spent his entire coaching career at Oklahoma?

Had the what ifs transpired, we would have two College Football coaches that would have records and accomplishments that would likely be impossible to imagine.
