New Walker Day!

Eldorado9Eldorado9 Posts: 2,416 ✭✭✭✭✭

And I don't mean the thing with four little wheels!

A few new additions.....I really like Walkers. Recently completed the Short Set, now working on the Mid set 33-s through 47-d. Any advice from you Walker experts appreciated. I do like the variety of "looks" you get with these coins, from toned to blast white.

The strike on a walker is the most important to me. If the thumb ain't there I'm not interested no matter the grade. But that's just me. Your 36 is nice.

    Have a good day, Gary

Go for the 1933-S and 1934-1939 branch mints (D & S) first, as they are the most difficult to locate nice and are also more cost prohibitive. After finding those, the rest will seem easy.

That's an outstanding strike on the '36. This is one of my newer ones-

Also, take your time and select choice examples (looks like you are), with superior strikes when possible.
Some are easy, like the 34S. Others, like the 35D and S, are quite a bit tougher.

Thanks @walkerguy and @walkerfan The 33-s and 38-d I am starting to search for now. Is it reasonable to expect to find those with full strikes?

The 1933-S will be easy to find with a full or nearly full strike.

The 1938-D will not be easy to find with a full strike. I have never seen one with a full strike. Just look for good separation and emerging definition. That is about the best that you can expect.

    The 33S should be ok.
The 38D I think is a little tougher, I don’t recall seeing full sharp thumbs, but otherwise decent central details.
    Walkerfan would know more.

The Walker Half imo, is the most beautiful US coin design of them all, right there with the St. Gaudens Double Eagle.
It is even more beautiful in gold. I bought one of these in 2016 for my collection.

@Golden1 I love that coin! I'm guessing it is really amazing in hand.....

That '41S Walker is a real beauty.... What a great coin. I have loved this coin since I was a kid... and they were in common circulation then.....Cheers, RickO

I would imagine if PCGS and other price recording agencies listed FT(full thumb) for the Walker's like they do the FS(full steps) for Jeffersons, their would be a price jump in their listings akin to the + listings. Just a thought.

nice group of walkers i like

Nice group! As you will find out (or have found out), the branch mint Walkers (save the 33-S, 34-D, 34-S and sometimes 36-S) will have blah strikes compared to the Philly pieces. Good ones can be found with patience though.
