Is there a way of getting the U.S. Mint to change a shipping address on an order already placed?

My daughter placed an order for the first Morgan Dollars offered by the U. S. Mint back on May 24th. In September she started a new job in a different city. She closes on her current house this coming Friday and can't get into her new house until November 1. My guess is that the coins will start to ship during that two week window when she and the hubby are in between houses. She is presently staying with a friend in the new city and her hubby just joined her this past weekend. I spoke to a Mint rep yesterday who informed me that her ONLY option is to hope that the USPS forwards the coins to whatever temporary address she will be using during the shipping period. I realize that the Mint insists that the shipping address match the billing address but this is a totally unavoidable situation involving special circumstances. Surely the Mint is encountering more of this type of malady since they opted to sell coins in May that wouldn't be shipped until October or November.

The problem with putting a hold on the mail is that the present post office is 130 miles away from the town where she is moving. I don't think she can realistically expect to not receive her mail for two weeks or more. Of course, she could make a trip or two back to her post office to pick up her mail but I would like to think that we live in a more enlightened time and this situation could be more easily remedied. This doesn't have to be complicated.

Absolutely correct. Unfortunately that’s not the world we have to deal with. Maybe Saturday’s or day off make for a fun trip. With notice to PO they usually have no problem as long as there’s a regular pickup. Where I live is rural and trips to town once a week are common. Hopefully it will work out. 🤠👍🏼

There might be one other option. I think you can arrange for a specific package to be redirected. It is something that is arranged with the PO. Not sure of the process - you would need to ask them.

The redirect is different than forwarding because it happens in the system and not after the package reaches the original destination PO.

You'll probably need to arrange it after it has shipped so you have the tracking #.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will certainly look into the redirect possibility, JBK.

A redirect is possible, but I would go to the post office that has been her facility before the move, and talk to them to see what options they recommend. She will not be able to change it at the Mint. The P.O. is usually accommodating if you work with them up front, directly, and before the move. Cheers, RickO

Can’t blame the mint on this one. Changing a shipping address post-order is a hallmark of fraud.

Get a PO box in the new city and have mail from the old address forwarded there.
