Want to hire a Consultant or Developer with a Numismatic Background to work with out Team

We are looking to build or purchase a catalog of products including all PCGS Coin Data, Bullion, and Sports Memorabilia.  We don't want to reinvent the wheel and I'm sure this has been done many times.  Looking for some guidance from a consultant that has been through the process or could direct us to a developer that communicates well with a team.
Please email with any lead or info you have to help us,
Thank you.

Why don't you contact PCGS or CDN? They have a database. I think contacting PCGS is such an obvious step, I wonder what is really going on here.

It's a local coin and bullion shop near me. I've helped him out in the past with setting up photo equipment.

I'm not sure if Aaron is looking for a database or rather for someone to purchase or build an inventory.

    Can you clarify?

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

PCGS has said they don't provide the coin numbers and details of the coins in an excel spreadsheet, only a PDF.
CDN has said they provide us with an API with a licensing agreement for $3000 per month.

And John Baumgart thank you for giving me some credibility here. You are an excellent teacher.

We are currently using an access database and will be eventually moving to Oracle Netsuite. I have a system admin for Netsuite and an IT director, I need the PCGS database in a CSV file, and/Or I need someone to consult with the team on a best practice to get the job done.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Exactly. I still don't understand this thread. You don't need a consultant to convert a file. What you need is access to data which means, generally, writing a check to the people who own the data.

PCGS owns the copyright to their data. Active Interest Media owns the copyright to their data (the former Krause/NumisMaster/F+W Media data).

If you want to use their data, if you want to republish their data, you need a license for it.

GENERALLY, copyright holders don't go after people who use their data for individual, non-commercial use. But they could.

Somebody will point out that FACTS cannot be copyrighted. And they are correct. You can't copyright that the diameter of a US Silver Dollar is 38.1mm. But you CAN copyright a collection of facts: the selection and arrangement of these facts, the "sweat of the brow" required makes that collection copyrightable.

You can also own a copyright in non-factual information even if it's added to facts, such as the PCGS Coin Number or the NGC Universal Coin ID, or the KM#.

So your first step needs to be approaching the copyright owner and arranging for legal access.

If this post had been made three or four months ago, I would have practically jumped at the opportunity. Combining coins with websites is something of a specialty for me. The work I have done so far has been engaging for the consumer, for whom I'm always considerate of when adding something new in, whether that is new inventory or a new way of displaying the inventory.

The big question I ask myself is: how do I transfer the in-person experience into a digital-only one? Some of the best customers will be the ones living thousands of miles away, I have to be able to cater to their needs as well.

    This!

Which is exactly why I find this request odd. This data is available and doesn't require a consultant. But it does require payment.

Heritage works with PCGS and CDN. The data sharing already exists IF YOU PAY the royalties.
