Another dishonest ebayer

I have been entertaining offers for my Durant Orange RC. I kept getting IG messages for people wanting deals outside of Ebay. I am reluctant to circumvent Ebay. So finally a guy says it will cost him $1800 in sales tax if I insist on Ebaying the transaction. So I lower the price to help off set his tax liability, to keep the transaction in Ebay. He then proceeds to change his shipping address to PWCC vault, tax free. I proceed to ignore and block another buyer. I would lose money more often than not to deal with honest people. But they do not come around as often as the idiots.

  • 2 types of buyers..... Will pay for the card because they love it! The other.... Because they only care about money

  • That's funny, I just received a message from a guy who listed a number of cards he needed for his collection, and wanting me to give him a price if I had any. He sent the request through eBay mail but it seemed pretty clear he wants a direct deal. Isn't this against the rules? Doesn't eBay monitor our messages for just that sort of transaction.

I have always heard it was against the TOS. I have a simple rule. If you find me on Ebay and message me, I keep the transaction in Ebay. Their fees may be high and whatever else. But ripping them off doesnt seem right. My other thought is if you lie and try to rip off one company. What stops you from doing the same too me.

  • Here is a perfect example of the importance of eBay protection. I recently won an auction for about $2500. 5 days later the seller marks the card shipped without any tracking. That was the first sign of this transaction being strange. 3 days after that I get a message from eBay saying the seller that auctioned this card hacked through another sellers account and used it. The listing was then removed from eBay all together. I immediately tried to cancel the order and get a refund. Which eBay also sent immediately. I have been constantly looking to see if the card has been relisted but so far it has not. People are out of there minds.

This is the type of card that you shop around to a few auction houses, pick a reputable one that you feel comfortable with and consign the card.

Basically, above, you intimated ‘I’d give up approximately 10-15% of this transaction to know the sale is final, that I’m not dealing with a creep or scammer and that I’m getting close to market tops on price.’

That is very close to the exact services and prices offered by auction houses. You consign the Durant card and get a check and the transaction is over.

No need to take pictures or scans.

    No writing descriptions.

    No questions.

    No delivery concerns.

No sweating out a $10K chargeback for 12 months.

Plus, a pro set of eyes might be able to spot a fingerprint or other correctable issue to potentially slide it into a ten holder and further improve the return on the card, far in excess of the fees generated. This has happened to/for collectors out there both great and small.

Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

i would concur. things turned south w the crazies & new entrants out there. i remember listing my gretzky opc 9 and could tell you endless stories about the folks that came outta the woodworks. i had to cancel so many accepted offers. half of the folks didnt realize the limits paypal or ebay payments places for the ability to pay for a high dollar item. others wanted to meet in person either because they were scared or didnt want to pay tax, another wanted it shipped to a 3rd party facility negating protection and so many other flakes and lowball offers it was absurd.

even when there was an auto-decline, it never stopped 100s of drunk messagers. ive sold plenty of big ticket items directly on ebay for over a decade. that all stopped after the gretzky. theres a ton of folks w deep pockets out there that really have no clue how to conduct a larger legitimate transaction that requires certain hoops that should have been jumped thru prior to committing to a purchase.
