Anybody have a good "system" for cataloging their coins?

Hi, I was wondering how other collectors are cataloging their coins. I have a spreadsheet with the usual stuff: purchase price, date, grade, cert #, etc. but specifically I wanted to know if someone has a systematic approach to description. This would be for personal use ("upgrading" at a show but not wanting to make the mistake of overlooking an interesting attribute of my coin, if I decide to sell then I don't have to reinvent the wheel writing a description), but I could see it being useful to my heirs down the road also.
Just wondering if anybody has a particularly good method for capturing the attributes of a coin, whether it's a numeric system or simply Obv: ____ / Rev: ____.
Thanks for the help!

In my Excel spreadsheet I include a hotlink to the PCGS cert lookup for each coin (one clikc and you are at the coin). If TV's are available it shows those and if not it has all the other info and links to other things. I also denote spots, etc in a description. Last, I list the dealer I purchased the coin from and have left instructions as to what coins should be offered to which dealers.

@pcgscacgold oh a hotlink, that's brilliant, thanks!
You are welcome. I have to check the links every so often because the links have changed along the way. It is nice to go through the list, clicking on each one, and seeing the coins that I don't keep at home along with updated pops and prices.

I started a computer based catalog system once...about 11 years ago... Then I realized, I really do not care... I just like having and looking at my coins. So, I scrapped it and I just have fun. Cheers, RickO
Every coin gets an SKU#, 4 photographs, and a description.
