After so much hassle stated in the above post, my son finally received the credit cards.
Just now, in less than 2 weeks, he called me, saying he lost his wallet with all he credit cards.
The cards are my authorized user cards, all the Morgans, Peace dollars, recent 2-coin set are on them.
What should I do?
If I report lost cards, the CC company will close the existing accounts and issue me new cards.

I’m so sorry buddy. I know this has been a nightmare for you. I saw this post and hoped finally things got resolved.
I have the same feeling you’re getting. What now? Most of the CC issues with the mint, they are not very helpful.

So far, we have no solution to::

    Lost CCs
    New CCs
Morgan and Peace going to be cancelled.

The 1-800# people will give a couple of different stories but the reality is if the card changes your orders will be cancelled.

It is incumbent upon you to limit losses by cancelling the cards.

If you change the cards, you will likely lose the mint purchases.

Do your cards offer a freeze option? You could freeze the cards and then unfreeze around the time the mint goes to charge you. Typically the people who find the cards tend to make a small purchase (like at a gas station) and only if the card still works will they buy the 65" TV.

-I locked one card with the Morgan orders.
-But, the 2-coin set, and S ASE are on another card, which I did not freeze yet. Because I think they will be shipped soon. I am taking a chance here.

All the above cards, authorized user has exactly the same card number, Exp date, sec code as the primary user.
American express card authorized user has different card number etc so I can just simply freeze the authorized user, no harm to me.
Also, I called to remove him as authorized user, the service rep said, the physical card had to be destroyed to avoid being used.

So sorry to hear about your peril. This reminds me to lock my credit card up that is used for Mint purchases until these are shipped.

This is what I am doing. I freeze one with Morgans, but keep one active for the 2-coin set, S ASE.

Look in your sock drawer. Or the clothes hamper. You'll find them.....someday. Down the road. And then you'll have a good laugh. At your expense.

Sorry about your issue. This just reinforces buying Mint gift cards..

You need to report them or risk liability. The $50 cap on fraud liability provided by federal law does not apply if you do not take prompt and reasonable steps to secure the accounts.

Try freezing the cards from your online portal if that is an option, and call the Mint to see if you can update your credit card information. My suspicion is that you cannot.

He lost ALL the cards! Unfortunately.
I thought about asking him to leave the cards with coin orders in the dorm.
    Collecting coins is getting complicated.

I hate to pile on, but I would tend to agree. :/

I see people at the grocery store who open their wallet and there are seemingly dozens of cards of all kinds neatly lined up in the pockets. All I can think is that if they lose the wallet they will never be able to recover.

Losing a few coins is a small sacrifice compared to the impact of financial disaster. It’s a kick in the nuts but the coins simply aren’t worth it.

Going forward a Visa cash card or similar specifically for you son would be something to look into. Or a card with its own number for him alone.

Wow.... Tough situation. Lots of thoughts about this... but the safest move is to cancel all the cards. The rest is up to you.... Cheers, RickO

This is not a big deal, cancel the cards and take the mint loss as the price of parenting. Every coin you just mentioned will be incredibly common and you will just have to pay the flipper premium like so many other collectors with slower internet. Not the end of the world.

Also it should be noted way cheaper over all than giving a kid a bunch of credit cards during their prime drinking years

I investigated "gift certificates" (GC) from the Mint. They max out at $200.00/card.

I was told by a telephone rep that you can only use ONE gift card per order. Any amount owed over the GC balance would have to be paid via other means (i.e., credit card, PayPal, or check card with a VISA or MasterCard logo).

So, in my mind, the utility of a GC is limited to orders of $200.00, or less. This is the case as any order over $200.00 would still require a second payment method (e.g., a credit card).

Did I receive bad information from the telephone rep? Can you apply more than one GC to a single transaction?

The mint doesn’t allow changes to CC after purchase. You change CC and you can always join the coffee club. We have pretty good luck getting at least one.

Once a CC is attached to an order, it has yet to be disproved that the CC can’t be changed and the order will cancel

I know when I've had to cancel and reissue cards, recurring charges (monthly, semiannual, etc.) still go through.

It is a very long shot, but maybe the cc company will honor the mint's charges if you ask them to.

I wish the mint would just charge the card at purchase. I am sure small beans to many but I have near a grand waiting to hit. When they start shipping.

Yeah, I've had them "helpfully" transfer a single-use virtual credit card that was used and closed over two years ago.

I would just go to your banking website and freeze the cards. Then in October, unfreeze them. After order is shipped, cancel the cards.

Also wouldn’t you hate to cancel the order only to find out it’s lost in his room or something…

Best of luck. I hope the person that finds the wallet returns it. I found a debit card recently and called the bank to freeze it and have the customer contacted. It was outside a bar so I am sure the woman (name on card) was probably unware it was missing.

I hope you don't all of a sudden have a charge for all of these from an online dealer site.
