    It looks like some kind of heat was applied to it. Not a mint error.

    Yep... PMD.... Looks like a heat bubble.... Heat causing separation of the layers. Cannot happen in the minting process. Cheers, RickO

    In another recent thread showing a dime with similar damage it was suggested a blowtorch may have been responsible.
