The Ol' George is back

Delightfully surprised as I glanced down at my change to see the old Washington quarter obverse. So much better than the the one used for the last 23 years. It also provided a challenge, as shooting clad can be tough to capture. Overall it's a great looking coin, really diggin the reverse too.

That's the old George obverse? Doesn't look like my old quarters.

I like the reverse somewhat. Nice coin over all
Looks better and more natural than the "spaghetti hair" version it replaced.

Hey howdy read the articles about it. There’s several good ones. Changed it just for ole George. One year for now.

I received one of those in change this week.... I put it aside, I like the reverse. From a new roll at the store. Cheers, RickO

Reverse seems a bit crowded...
But that's the case for a lot of the modern stuff
Except the stuff that isn't crowded like the type 2 ASE or the freedom of religion coin.
On the reverse, I'm trying to figure out what's going on with George below the waist. Does he have an oar sticking into his crotch?
You think and say some strange things.

Yes, but they put so much emphasis and detail into George's trousers, that they might as well have called it Crotching the Delaware...
George's left hand is gripping something, presumably the rudder of the boat. His right hand points with the sword towards the Delaware River's New Jersey shore and the River Road leading south towards Trenton and hundreds of hungover Hessians.
This victory (Battle of Trenton) signaled an important turning point in the War. Up to that point, George was losing every battle, getting kicked out of NY during the summer of 1776 and chased across NJ into PA. What does he do? Surprise attack on Trenton the day after Christmas, 1776. Then on the offensive again at Princeton. The British then saw that this wasn't going to be an easy, quick victory.
I like the coin overall. I think the reverse is much better than the original design.
I think this should become a part of the 1965-1998 set. The obverse is the same, the reverse is different but that was also true of the 1976 quarters.
I like the coin, but I wish the style of the digits in the date had been a better match for the earlier quarters.
