1965 Special Mint Set with Nickel reverse struck through grease?

Hi all
I did my best to take this picture, trying to get a picture without blur from the packaging is difficult at best, I hope it can be seen clear enough! what are your thoughts on this error?, I guess I figure if they are going out of their way to make a special mint set, this might have been noticed :)
Thanks in advance!

Looks like a minor grease strike.

  • So, is it nothing special? other than being a special mint set?

It does appear to be struck through grease... and should have been screened out before inclusion in the set. I would not assign much - if any - premium. Cheers, RickO

1965 SMS sets are in flatpacks like the proof sets of previous years. 1966-1967 SMS sets come in the hard plastic holders.

I suspect that the majority of collectors and dealers would consider that coin to be nothing more than defective. As a result the entire set in its packaging would have to be discounted in order to make a sale. The current fixation on unimportant "errors" and "varieties" by many often new collectors is going to lead to disappointment on their part when it comes time to sell.

If offered to me I would decline to make an offer on a set like that.

    All glory is fleeting.

The more I think about it, your right, it diminishes the value of the entire set, looks like I might be cutting it apart to save the value of the others!
    Thanks 29fifth!

  • Sorry 291fifth
I somehow missed the number 1 in your name from my post above!

I don't understand? the two 1965 SMS that I have are in floppy plastic as my picture implies, I do also have the 1966 and 1967, you are correct they are in hard plastic
