Just off the top of my pointed head.....I'll WAG of 64.
Those later date S mints are notorious for weak strikes.

I wouldn’t pay more than 58 no matter how nice. So maybe 61 since the market value is the same

True. This one is exceptionally bad. Zero eye appeal. 61 at best.

I'll say 55. Hard to tell if that is some wear or not

Wow. That's about the flattest obverse I've ever seen on a Walker. I'll guess 63 but it sure looks AU

  • Walkerguy21DWalkerguy21D Posts: 11,552 ✭✭✭✭✭

Due to the angle, hard to tell if MS or not, but it does look like the luster band is intact.
The gouge/scratch near the motto and marks on the sun will certainly be grade limiting.
    I'll go with 62.

looks like an average strike even for an "S" Mint coin. add in the obverse contact marks and the "dipped to death" appearance and I would avoid the coin no matter what the grade and price.

    here's mine.

Likely 63 or 64 on the holder... I think the camera angle is hiding luster. The weakness in strike would make me wait for a better piece... unless I could get it for 58 money...

Weak strike, even for a 1944-s, distracting marks in right field, plus what looks like overly dipped, impaired luster....Sorry to be harsh, but it's not a good 44-s. Sorry! MS60?

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

You can do much better than that. Here's an MS64 in an OGH PCGS holder.

Well here it is everyone. Ms63. I got it pretty cheap. I was just amazed by how much missing details, but still graded MS.

Glad you got it for a good price. Definitely a buy the coin not the holder example.

Me thinks that the grade is a gift.

It is not a gift... it really is a statement as to the quality issues at the San Francisco Mint and for this series. 1944 follows 1941 and 1940 as the worst for the WLH series.

This goes straight to the heart of what is wrong with numismatics. Take the time to understand and appreciate the series of whatever series you collect. Not all coins look great or the same at various grade levels. The lesson learned from this is that few...if any... will learn or understand what matters.

It was an educational piece for me. I would have never guessed it as a MS. So I bought it as one for me to study and learn.

I wasn’t sure if there was rub, or not, as it was really too difficult to tell from those images. I am not terribly surprised at that grade.
