I don't know enough about this to offer an opinion as to value. It appears to have some hairlining . Have you searched J R Nichols?

I have always loved the design. Yours would be considered an impaired proof.

I think it's really cool!
Looks like it's been wiped causing those hairlines.
Very nice. Love the detail and color. Congrats!
Where’s coinsarefun?
very nice looking, and with the original case of issue. Makes me want to binge watch "Hell On Wheels" again!
What opinion do you need?

I agree.....As the design.......its one of the best IMO
as to a question of been cleaned....well, slight hairlines, Looks like more so on the upper reverse.
If its real.....yes.
Slab question.......honestly who knows anymore. I say its worth a shot if that's what you want.

Beautiful. This is the second of these, in silver, that has been posted in the last few weeks! This is not a modern restrike.
It has hairlines, which is typical, but it does not looked “cleaned” or polished IMO. I would also not call it impaired.
The “original”, or contemporary, case is a nice touch too.
Thanks much for the comments. My question was about the hairlines and if it was cleaned or just from improper handling. I called it cleaned and the dealer said it was not cleaned. From the comments here it looks like the coin would be in the iffy range.
Thanks Again.
Ken
It does not look cleaned - to me. The hairlines look more like handling rub.... In and out of the case, on counter tops etc. Being on the reverse, further supports my opinion (IMO
). Cheers, RickO
I dont have a problem with what Im seeing, whatsoever. Beautiful medal. Will it straight grade? Anyone's guess. I tend to think it will, however with that beautiful original case, Id leave it as it is
These are popping out of the woodwork recently! Hope one comes my way...

it looks like it was wiped/cleaned and mis-handled at some point, then placed back in its holder where it re-toned.
Great pick up, especially with the original box
