Mercanti/other signature insert coins

I own several Mercanti's, Moy's and other signatures on my slabbed coins. I think the original idea was that having a signed insert by the designer or a famous person was to give it some "ooomph" in the market and increase its value. The problem I see now is that Mercanti and a few others are signing so many inserts (literally thousands) for so many coins that the "coolness" and rareness is rapidly dwindling, at least to me. It's kind of like Beanie Babies. When a few "rare" pieces were made it was fun to try and find them...........and then the onslaught started and rare pieces were nothing more than common ones.....and now you literally can't give the darned things away because there's so many of them floating around. Just wondering what everyone's take is on this? Having a signed insert on a Silver Eagle is nice since he was a part of the original coin.....but now the design has changed so it's not the same to me. Comments?

No added value to me
I had one reholdered at the cost of losing the signature. I didn’t care.
The issue is that the value of a signature is based on the person, not the rarity of the signature. I could sign one label and no one would care because I’m not important. Michael Jordan could sign thousands of labels for random coins and they’d be collectible since his signature is collectible to a huge audience. A designer’s name may be known, but that doesn’t add much value (if any) to me because they’re known in a narrow field and, no offense to them, aren’t super special in the grand scheme of things.
My only signed label is with a North Carolina quarter in an ICG holder. I got it for a few bucks back in the day when any slab was exciting, i thought the ICG holder particularly attractive, and the coin has an airplane. If the signature carries any premium I wouldn’t have bought it, but for essentially free, I suppose it was a neat little addition.
I agree. They can be cool if the person has some connection to the coin, but it has become way overdone.
I have such a soft spot for reverse proofs. 🤓🙀

The signature I am after to complete my set.
Wondercoin
I came across a SE with Elizabeth Jones insert that I had bought some years ago for a reasonable price. It was marginally interesting.
I’d love a set of airplanenuts.
Me thinks that DCarr does it right. I enjoy every piece in my collection. Peace Roy

I collect coins, not signatures.... Autographs do not interest me at all. I do have a couple of signed books by authors, but that is because they came that way. If I wanted the coin, and it met my criteria, I would buy it - but not for a signature. Cheers, RickO
There’s quite a healthy market for signatures Just not the ones I’ve collected 😂
