A first timer’s experience: PSA PHOTO AUTHENTICATION (Woodbridge NJ)
This is my first time and I am quite excited for this one.
I literally just dropped off three beautiful Type I photos for encapsulation. The process is actually pretty seamless. You arrive with your forms already filled out, having printed them online. It’s a pretty building…
When you arrive, you drop an email to say so and when you get into the lobby, the doorman gives you the number for upstairs. In my case, it was Sean who came down and answered my questions, helped me fill out the forms and accepted the photos on behalf of PSA and off they went. I should have them back in around 30 days - available for pickup at the same location.
Here’s the three photos (with names to reference where they’re found in use afterwards):
1954 Sports Illustrated/Topps Card Action Pose
Sports Illustrated - June 17, 1957 - Skills of the Hitter (Pg. 23)
1969 New York Yankees Mickey Mantle Day
When I get them back, they be encapsulated in the appropriate PSA holder and well protected.
Keep you all posted.
Wish me luck!!!!

Thanks - hopefully pretty soon.
And here’s a wide shot of that ‘54 Topps Mantle…

IMF
Was this your 2nd trip there?
I vaguely remember (maybe im just remembering wrong) a thread almost identical to this one where you got there no one ever showed up to meet you.
Yes, I believe they do.
Good memory. Yes, 2nd attempt.

So, this entered the system on 9/20 and I honestly don't know what to make of that as this is my first time subbing photos.
Could be a month, could be a year.
Good times.

Really happy with the look of these.
Here’s the criteria fir PSA photo classification…
PSA Photograph Type Classification
Type I – A 1st generation photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (within approximately two years of when the picture was taken).
Type II – A photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (more than approximately two years after the picture was taken).
Type III – A 2nd generation photograph, developed from a duplicate negative or wire transmission, during the period (within approximately two years of when the picture was taken).
Type IV – A 2nd generation photograph (or 3rd or later generation), developed from a duplicate negative or wire transmission, during a later period (more than approximately two years after the picture was taken).
Type 1 photographs are the most desirable and valuable of the four photograph types because of their vintage and originality.
Many Type 4's were issued after 1970, either for latter-era publication of earlier original images or for the general public consumption.
Duplicate negatives are produced by taking a photograph of an existing original photograph thereby creating a second negative that is of inferior quality to the original
All photograph types are collectible; a Type 3 photograph of a Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle may be worth considerably more than a Type 1 photograph of a common player from the 1920's.

Love the photos. What is the cost?
It varies. In this case, verifying authenticity was $50 plus $30 for the jumbo holder.

Some random thoughts…
1) Part of my confusion about the turnaround time stems from it not really being a true part of the system: no pizza tracking, no Registry eligibility and not mailed.
Sean said about 30 days and it was that.
2) I don’t know where these fit in the collecting world but the indicated years and type designation on each helped me learn even more about the process. I like that they source them and research them well and indicate the significance on the flip where applicable.
3) All three are the jumbo flip; the cellophane bag has the PSA LOGO, not the slab itself.
4) Since I was asked by a buddy and he is not the only one wondering, I am sure? No, I did not add this line myself! 😂😂😂

That’s actually on the PSA website, so if it’s not there by PSA’s doing than someone hacked it.
