GRADE POSTED BELOW IN A COMMENT
Howdy folks. Recently decided to put together a date set of PCGS & CAC Peace Dollars. Here's the first pickup outside of my 1925 type set example. Care to guess the grade? Will post within 24 hours. Cheers.

Nice hair detail, clean cheek, and a little chatter in front of liberty. I'll wag a 66. That's a coin I would buy.
Pretty dang nice. 65+

63, I knocked it down mainly because of the marks on the chin

64 or 65, I'll go 64 personally.

Man, you are a tougher grader than my college freshmen literature professor. I'll go 65 - 65+, possibly even 66.
Tim
65+, I knocked it down mainly because of the marks on the chin and the reverse reeding mark below the E.

My eye was immediately drawn to the marks on the chin, which led me to see the marks on the neck, etc… I picked 63 before seeing other people graded it higher and stuck with my first impression

I will go with 65+CAC. That coin is stunning. Next to SLQ's that is my favorite silver coin series.

I've seen a fair number of 66s recently with more contact marks, and from the images, I can't tell how much chatter is actually on the chin versus a bit of a shadow. I don't think the coin is a 67, but I do think 66 would be fair.
66 no CAC
should be a 65. Nice clean cheek.

The 1928 is a key date, with current PCGS prices like this (ignoring plus coins):
MS64 - $950, POP 2143
MS65 - $4500, POP 378
MS66 - $30,000, POP 27
My point is that they don't accidentally give out 66 grades and 65 coins are darn hard to come by.
I see this coin as a stellar 64+ CAC or a solid 65 CAC. I wouldn't probably be interested in paying 65+ money for it ($7-8K). I've "made" one 65+ in my career and it was pretty darn nice. This one has a little left obverse field chatter, a reed hit in the upper left reverse field, some light portrait abrasions, some light abrasions on the rock, and a hit on the eagle's leg. Luster looks nice and strike is quite good for the issue. This flashy, white, frosty look is highly valued by collectors of the series. If this was a Morgan it would be an easy 66, but, it isn't, and the graders are always a little tougher on this series.
Whatever the grade, this is a solid coin, and will perfectly at home in what will surely be a very nice date set.
Edited to add:
Now that I'm at home and looking on a better monitor, I'm seeing this as more of a 64/64+. There really are a lot of small hits and marks. Not a single one is glaringly distracting, but in total, they might keep it out of gem range. Whatever the technical grade, the coin's merits (clean cheek, great strike, mostly clean eagle, nice luster) make it easy to excuse its flaws. Again, this is a coin that I'd be very tempted to acquire, were I in the market for one.
I'm guessing the tv makes it look better than in hand, MS64

63 because of the neck and the chin. It is a solid coin tho!
Really nice looking coin! I would guess 65 just because of the rub/marks on the chin and neck.

If this were a 1922-1925-P mint, I would have guessed MS66. Given it is a 1928 and has a plus grade, I’ll guess 64+ since even a 65+ is going to be an expensive and low pop grade.

I'll line up with the other 64+'s.
My apologies, using the '+' symbol in my title/post was confusing. I was not actually referring to it being a plus grade, although that sounds like a fun challenge. I've changed the title and post to use the ampersand symbol instead of a plus sign. Sorry if that confused anyone else.
Thanks for all of the guesses, reasoning and feedback so far. Will post the grade tomorrow morning.

Super sharp coin! First thought was 66, but I'll guess 65, only because they grade the keys tougher. (I'm no expert on grading this series, either.)
65 here. Nice!

I'd go with 64+, but wouldn't be surprised to see it at 65.

I'm thinking MS66. I have several MS66 Peace dollars, & yours is right up there!

Morning all. Thanks again for participating. Below is the distribution of guesses, with the majority falling between 64+ and 65+.
Kudos to @DelawareDoons @gumby1234 @coinbuf for being the only three on-the-money guesses, as the coin is in an MS64 holder (with CAC sticker as already indicated).
A little context — I already own a blast white MS66 CAC 1925 example for my type set, and like it so much that I've decided to build a date set of blast white PCGS CAC coins. This one fell into the insta-buy category and I "bought it now" on eBay from a small town independent dealer for close to MS64 money.
In hand, the coin has blazing cartwheel luster befitting of a gem coin with no sign of dip spots or residue, and the luster would not hold it back from at least a 66 grade. The strike, as @BryceM also pointed out, is strong and it seems like most agree that the eye appeal is superb. So it must be the cumulative hits/dings/marks that are holding it back, as some of the folks who guessed 64 or even 63 pointed out.
The dark area on the chin is thankfully just a lighting shadow, but there is a hit towards the bottom of it, which accompanies a scuff on the bottom of the neck, a couple of hits above and below the eye, one on the bridge of the nose, and a few in the fields (left of forehead, above 'IN', below 'GOD'). The reverse has several edge hits (eagle's beak, under the 'E', dead center on the feathers).
Regardless of what the grade on the holder says, I am THRILLED to own this example. It has eye appeal befitting of a 65 or better coin IMO, but the technical grade keeps it just below gem @BryceM astutely pointed out. The green CAC sticker seems to be agreement on that from JA. Given the book value of the coin doubles even from 64 to 64+, I'll probably submit it for regrade/reconsideration in the future, but am in no rush to do so.
Appreciate everyone weighing in on this. Be well.

I owned a 65 that I bought raw, subbed, cac'ed, and sold... and I didn't like it as much as this coin. Grade isn't everything. Really nice coin, and congrats.
"It's like God, Family, Country, except Sticker, Plastic, Coin."
There are multiple 65 CAC recent auction results linked on CoinFacts with more contact marks and far less eye appeal. Perhaps there is something holding it back that can only be seen in hand with good lighting?
I too, perused coinfacts before guessing 66. Would rather own your coin than most of them.
I completely agree. Eye appeal is king and to me this coin looks like it was a bargain if it sold at or near 64 price.

I've looked at it under both bright natural and incandescent light, and there's nothing that's raising concern. I may take it to my local coin show this coming weekend and have a couple dealers take a look in-hand and give me an objective take. I'll report back if I end up doing that.
Yes, I feel very lucky to have picked it up at close to 64 money, especially given how hot the market for Peace dollars are with the 2021 release.

I like Peace Dollars, and that is very nice coin! Congrats! Looks 65 to me.
Well... Late to the game... Had to work today.... Looked like a 64 to me.... so I guessed good. Very nice Peace dollar.... Cheers, RickO
I don’t think it will 65 but it could/should plus, I would crack if I was you.
