My new sweet spot found.. (Bust halves)
I've been fooling around with the idea of putting together some sort of CBH set again.
Its been a few years since I sold off. It was fun building, but in the end it just felt like too much capital sitting in the sdb..
I've lowered the bar..but have been torn between a few different goals.
1. Super interesting love tokens, or otherwise engraved bust halves..
2. Neatly holed but otherwise problem free
3. Original, raw, late die states in lower grades
4. Overdates ( original, prob free low grade etc)
5. Counterstamped
The answer has finally arrived..
All of the above!
Arrived today, a sweet LDS 1812 that far exceeds the seller pics (and my own) in eye appeal 🙂
Coin above replaces the gorgeous O-106 from my old set... miss this one sometimes!

Good looking circulated piece with lots of character.

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.....Mark Twain
And here's one I picked up last week that checks almost all the boxes in one package!
I like your new coin and there is certainly nothing wrong with some of everything.

I like your approach, it sounds fun, interesting, not stressful, and still has the thrill of the hunt.
This Kaz..
The return to using that slightly more disciplined eye that doing a set inspires has already come into play.. 2 of my most coveted shattered die early date varieties have popped up in the last week...
As much as I'd love to get them both into this set, they have issues and I just don't want them stinking up the place..😅
That discipline will serve you well. at some point an acceptable coin will appear, maybe sooner than you think!
Love those LDS pieces! These will make great additions to your already fascinating box set.
Welcome back!

Cheers all!
Ala Lord Marcovan, ill use this thread to update the set as it grows.
L.M. and his ability to collect cool stuff for years on a modest budget and also Baleys amazing bust quarters are primary points of inspiration for me.
Killer Quality Bust halves in G to VF grades, early dates, late states!
I actually have 1 coin still from my old set (..its got a forum provenance and perhaps its previous owner may recognize it...)
Also, what the heck, while waiting for new additions...anyone want to gtg the 1812's?
The 2 gorgeous coins (pics by Lance..🙂) were PCGS graded,
The newly acquired raw 106...just say what you think it ought to be graded!
Welcome back @jayPem!!!
Love your new 1812 O.106….I’m gonna guess VF20 on that one.
And, as for your other 1812, great choice to keep this one from your original set. I’ll guess VF30.
You can’t go wrong with bust halves that look like them, congrats!!
Dave
Hey Dave, glad you like the new direction ..should be fun
I like your grade for the raw 106.
Some might not understand that the shattered dies can seriously affect the strike on the opposite side of the coin.
Obverse looks F at best but the reverse does look VF to me.
Pretty cool, and of course it hardly matters 😅.
Looks like you are off to a great start.... I will check back to watch the progress. Good luck. Cheers, RickO
Welcome back, your collecting sounds familiar..
I have been selling off my Overtons for about 3 years now and collecting only,
Bust Halves that are
1. Errors
2. C/S
3. Love tokens
Lets not become each others under bidders.

What are your initials, and I will check to see if I have a Love Token you might need to have.
A dog tag maybe? And a graduation souvenir or?????????

@BustDMs... @habaraca ....let me know if you ever grow weary of your treasures.
😄
As they say, silly offers buy coins…….

Some good idea here 🙂
Another date for the holey cbh set.
Some old graffiti. Nice antique patina.
