What’s the premium on PSA vs. SGC or BGS/BVS for vintage cards?

Most of my collection is PSA, but occasionally I find a card I can’t resist that’s graded elsewhere. My experience is that PSA typically commands a higher price when all else is equal, but curious if there’s a “rule of thumb” on what that should be?

I don't think so. I think it varies from card to card.

no universal rule or formula other than “buy the card, not the holder”. when it comes to vintage though, i would go w a sgc card over a bgs

everything is kinda outta whack anyways w the psa pause. but there are certainly more gems to be had sifting thru sgc listings simply bc there are those that wouldnt wait for psa to reopen.

    BVG/BGS for vintage is carp,

I've tried to calculate a standard % formula for BVG vs PSA. It's a wide range from 50%-80% of PSA...unless its not

I'm mainly PSA but have a few great copies in BVG. '54 Banks (7), '55 Koufax (8), '60 Yaz (8.5)
I have little desire to crossover as I'm happy with the card, the score, and the holder.
Many collectors would expect a 1.0 drop in the crossover...my scores above appear to be graded correctly IMHO

and they most likely are. its just getting the other company to admit that due to their own biased reasons. its precisely why i never really use the crossover method any longer. crack and sub, while riskier, gets you an honest look at the card, imo.

I consider myself holder agnostic between PSA, SGC and old BVG with the sub-grades. If I like the card enough I pay pretty close to PSA prices. SGC 92 is my favorite grade and when I like the card it is usually nicer than a PSA 8 and I pay accordingly.

I’ve only ever submitted to PSA. Have 75-100 cards I want graded and pretty close to pulling the SGC trigger. Now to narrow it down to 40-50…..

In a couple more hours, the highest selling baseball card of all time will be sitting in an SGC case.

    Hard to believe…

Good for SGC. As long as everyone agrees the card isn’t trimmed, God Bless America.

I trust and love PSA; but I love good competition more. It would be great for the hobby if we have Honda AND Toyota….

prewar has always been sgc’s niche, imo.

These are going off to SGC. Low grades but like to have them slabbed sooner than later. Johnny U appears nicer than it is. Does the Booker have any value?

    no on the booker.

I really Like the bottom sections of the SGC slabs and slab quality but their new "flips" are not so nice looking.

I like SGC; but they can't grade 62 baseball or football and 71's. Also, their mid grade is sometimes low grade. I have to get a decent deal to buy them.

That's true, but no one can convince me that last night's Wagner was worthy of a 3.
