NEWP 1918 S Walker for the early date set

ThreeCentSilverFLThreeCentSilverFL Posts: 1,700 ✭✭✭✭✭

Slowly adding to my early date set. Picked this up a few weeks ago. The nice golden toning makes for a good match to most of my other early dates. GTG if you’d like. Thanks for looking.

Well done!! I really, REALLY like the looks of that one. The strike is well above average. I'm guessing VERY LIGHT circulation. AU 58.

I love the high grade early Walkers and that is a nice one!

Very nice! I got to see a nice Unc complete raw set that a dealer had for sale at the Bay State show a couple of weekends ago.
I finally broke down and bought the 21D to complete my heavily circulated set.

Very nice half dollar. Great definition. Eye appeal.
    Congratulations.
Some portions of the eagle suggest high AU; though I would not be surprised at a MS grade.

Either 58 or 64. If I squint, I think i see wear but photos are difficult to discern. Whatever the grade, congratulations on a very nice example.

A really tough date. I never found an 18-S that I liked.

That is one well struck reverse. I would feel the reverse would garner an MS65 grade, but the obverse MS63. I think the toning is making wear evident where there is none. Just an opinion. Thanks for sharing.

Well struck for that date and mint. Typical shallow obverse center, but nowhere near as bad as some.

I waffled about condition, wanting to say AU-58, but this time I'm going MS-63.

Looks like evidence of circulation in the right obv field and eagle's neck area, but it may also be focus differences. Still, I'll guess AU58.

I saw MOST of an Unc set in a Dansco about 12 years ago, but most of the coins had been cracked from holders.

I recall being at a show in OH about 25 years ago, and an old time dealer who always carried nice walkers introduced me to a real old time collector (he was close to 80), who supposedly had a complete set. His "pocket piece" that he showed me was a 21S in AU, kept in a hard plastic 2x2 holder. It was his backup lower grade dupe LOL! And no, it wasn't for sale.

Thanks for all the comments. You all are pretty spot on, as usual. It’s in an AU58 holder. Great eye appeal and surfaces and happy to have added it to my Walker collection. Thanks!
