My video walkthrough of the 2021 National (Over 55 Photos Now Added)

VagabondVagabond Posts: 589 ✭✭✭✭

Decided to just walk around on Saturday, do some straight filming for an hour, show some cards off and also get perspective on what dealers thought of this show. Basically just trying to let whoever is watching get a feel for how this years show was. I will say that I noticed a lot more Basketball than in 2019. The lines all around were much longer - even at the snack bars/concession stands. The crowd was much younger. Lots of these kids selling to dealers and amongst themselves. There was noticeably a lot more females in the crowd than in previous years. Guessing a lot of husbands and boyfriends brought their girlfriends and wives with them. I can probably go on but just see for yourself.

SGC decided not to grade at the National, however, if you decide to submit to them, they currently have about a two week turnaround time which is excellent.

Oh my. How do they not grade at the National ?? That seems like an awfully bad move to me. They seem to have always been ok with their market share. To me they are kind of strange.

  • What a great video! Thank you!

Well said. Ripping packs in lieu of grading cards is also strange.

    People are strange,
    When you’re a stranger,
    Faces look ugly,
    When you’re alone.
    Women seem wicked,
    When you’re unwanted,
    Streets are uneven,
    When you’re down…

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Glad to know that a simple video can still be enjoyed without the over the top editing effects and the fancy background music.

  • Marc - I really enjoyed your video. Everyone has a different perspective (dealers, collectors, investors, grading company, auction houses, etc,...), but that guy from Baseball Card Exchange said it the best to Enjoy the hobby.

My understanding is they wanted to keep their promise to submitters that have cards in with them and grading at the National would put their turn times at risk. No horse in this race but that sounds like a good deal for their submitters.

I will be attending the 2023 National in Chicago this year. Hotel and flight booked. I didn't attend the 2022 in Atlantic City as I wasn't interested in going to the Jersey location. With less than three weeks away, I thought it was fun to revisit this one and see the crazy prices. This like the 2018 Topps Juan Soto Chrome PSA 10 at $300, today, they sell for about $75. I also purchased the 2011 Topps Update Trout Cognac during the 2011 show in PSA 10 for $15K. Today they sell for about $5500-6K. Ouch lol. I still have it and I don't plan on selling anytime soon.

I'll make a new YouTube walkthrough video for this 2023 show and also share here. In the meantime, the 2021 video is in this thread along with a bunch of photos. Enjoy.
