Pepto-Bismol?

BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭

All the darker toning on this SLQ is natural, but the Pink looks like it's water stained like something was spilled on it?

What do y'all think the pink is?

Maybe a collectors with stomach issues spilled some Pepto-Bismol?

First thing I thought of was ink at some point.

Obviously the pink is a deposited contaminant. Start with an acetone rinse, that should remove it, without any effect on the metal surface. Well, that is, if you want to remove it from the slab... I would not do that, but others do when something like that bothers them enough. Cheers, RickO

Thanks... Yet I don't own it, as It's just a coin I saw online.

Wouldn't this be considered stained and should be in a details holder?

Unless it's something that would eventually damage the surface like PVC I wouldn't go with details. Heck, there's plenty of coins with some sort of crud on them out there! :)

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Bank Teller stamp ink it looks like to me.
That ink is indelible and is used by many banks .
I am another who cannot believe it wasnt in a detailed holder.
I have had buffalo get carbon spots after being graded in a slab.
But they would of occured no matter if slabbed or not.
But ink as such would be that color and most probably was dipped which caused it to lighten but not remove.
A second thought is im not seeing a full head....i see something close but no cigar.

Hey, what is a 'detailed holder'? guess I can go look it up, but it seems friendly to ask...

    I agree.

That seems like a somewhat generous FH designation too — I can attest that there’s a pink colored ‘Otter Pops’ popsicle that drips and dries remarkably close to this color ….

A "details holder" is a slab with a problem coin that can't get a straight grade. The coin may be scratched, cleaned, corroded, etc. The details grade is the grade it would have received if it were problem free.

Ok I believe that I figured it out,
Look at the coin see the X the X crosses the obv. I now believe after studying the coin image is that this was a end of roll coin, the X could of been tape or just the way the red paper roll folded on the end.. you have a in all actuality heavy cheap red paper, the end some what gets wet or moister gets in. The roll sits, after time the red ink or dye in the paper transfers onto the obv.
    But look carefully at like 10 & 2 k then at 5 & 7k .
