I see a details coin (scratches).

AU53, looks to be retoned over some old hairlines, but not sure if the angled views are helping or hurting the appearance. But pretty much any early walker in AU is a cool find in my book.

That coin appears to be on the cusp of PCGS hairline tolerance, so could be AU53, AU50 (netted for the hairlines), or AU Details - Cleaned.

Yes, appears to have been cleaned with some subsequent re-toning.

The lines look like they are from circulation. I’d guess 55 from those pics.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

Lol I’ll pay 10x that right now!

Edit to add, I assume that was a typo and you meant $250, so my apologies if so….

@291fifth its the lighting. I take horrible photos. It has mint luster still, although not as much as my 1944 Walker.

EDIT plus the new photos it is in a 2X2

One needs to see this one in hand. The images are just not helping the cause with exception as to lustre. Could it straight grade? Yes... But I want to be on the same playing field as the graders... for whatever service... before offering an opinion.

edited to add... the second set of pictures adds to the problem. My hope is that the image captures issues associated with coin photography in general and not my knee jerk reaction that the coin was cleaned to the point that a straight grade is not possible. There are some questions with the first set that lead me to think a straight grade maybe optimistic as well. In spite of my bias, I will opine that determining whether the lustre has been impaired is the key to whether a straight grade in the 55-58 range is viable

This coin probably will end up in an AU details slab. It's very sad because the 1916 and early 1917 half dollars are the best Walking Liberty halves of the series as they have the textured satiny surfaces from Weinman's original models. Only thing that sucks is that the overwhelming majority of them lacked full detail. Only if they made matte proof coins in 1916 of the silver pieces...

The new photos scream a bunch of things (spot lighting, take the coin out of the holder before taking a picture, etc.) but cleaned is not one of them. Whether the coin is or isn't is a separate issue, but I don't see anything in that photo that makes me think the coin is obvious cleaned.

    iI agree.

The second photo makes it look like a different coin so no clarification.

Do not feel bad. I take even worse photos.

I think the photos accent any perceived 'scratches' and in-person the coin probably doesn't exhibit these deficiencies. I like it as a sold higher-end AU coin.

I think these are your best, and likely most accurate, shots of the coin. Still an AU, even when upside-down.

@TomB yes better and more accurate. Upside down was to show coin better without getting the glare from tilting it.
