Strike doubling. Think of a right angle being pressed that slips off the vertical plane creating a lower shelf.
there are a lot of cool DDO s for that date though. Always check the eagles eye and “United States of America” . often they have a floating wing tip after OF from over polishing
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
Yup. The date was entered separately on the die, so on a true doubled die it would not be doubled.
AKA, "die chatter".
Here is a Buffalo that I won which exhibits the same type of machine doubling.
That's a nice example, PipestonePete.
Yep, MD unfortunately - but great example.

You guys are too generous. I was going to attribute it as a cardboard and mylar 2x2.
Luckily the photos were good enough to confirm MD....
BTW, I don't see staples. Maybe they are farther out from the hole, or could it be self-adhesive? I am not a huge fan of those due to the chemicals and chemical fumes in the adhesive.
Yep... Not a DD.... but nice example and a nice Flying Eagle cent. Cheers, RickO
@JBK there were staples. Its not in the 2X2 anymore.

no patina in the staples either
