Surge token question

Hello, I have the token above. I cannot find out any information on the internet on a company called "Surge" or this token. One side has "$5.00 down buys a Surge" the other side has "Surge Piece O'Eight worth S1.00 toward down payment on Surge Unit void after July 1, 1956"
Aluminum token
First of all what is a "Surge unit" (air conditioner?, refrigerator?, furnace? or??) ?
Any info on this company or what a "Surge unit" is, would be greatly appreciated. I suspect that maybe some of the older members may know this. Thanks!

Good reference, Thanks!, i will ad the website to my list!
I would have never guessed that. Of course I didn't grow up on a farm, either.
Looks painful.
For $5 you can find out for sure
Very interesting.... I have only done it by hand.... No machines when I was a kid...at least not on the farm my friend lived on. There is a technique...but not hard to learn. Cheers, RickO
I’ve never seen or heard of these. They are pretty cool!

I used a machine like that when I was a kid. Milking cows is GROSS! YUK! I don't know what's worse, milking or collecting eggs from the hen house. At twelve years old I got promoted to driving a skip loader on a dairy farm scraping up cow crap. What a lovely job. Ahhh......the joys of childhood!
