Good advice overall from the mint. I don’t know how widely this advice was spread but maybe it saved a few pieces from being destroyed back in the day.

Hmmm...where's "original luster" guy? The mint says you can't restore "newly minted luster"...get ready
Now that is interesting. On the one hand, the Mint has complained about coin shortages caused by collectors, and then they give advice on preservation for collectors. Cheers, RickO
This letter was from April 1973. The coin shortage was from the mid 1960's so the coin shortage was over.
