Am I the only one that thinks this looks like . . .

. . . something ELSE . . . ?
I mean, NGC, Wut Da Heck were you thinking?
These surely ain't no "medals" . . . .
What do you see these as?
"I'll Love You Forever" medals, certified and authenticated MS70 by NGC. No "wooden nickels" here folks . . . .
Brought to your attention by Zoid . . .
"First Releases" too . . . . . . .

You're not alone. I think it cheapens their brand, and whatever short-term profit is seen is dissipated over the long haul.
peacockcoins
I think those should be in a vending machine in the mens room at the local bar instead of an NGC case.

I guess you've got to "certify" quite a few "unusual" pieces to get to that 50 Million certified mark . . . . . .

That’s crazy. They seem to be just novelty items, gag gifts. Like old Spencer gift shop stuff

I am at a total loss for words.
I assume (?) it is a solid struck replica. But who knows and who cares.
Well, at least it's not an Early Release™.

China just increased their allowed number of children per family from 2 to 3. This is sure counterproductive.
I imagine one grade lower may prove more popular
I would certainly hate to run across an "AU" example of one of those . . .
Any "lowball" collectors? I'm thinking the G04 to P01 examples would have no takers . . .

I have a original Ribbed Magnum MS 70
Odd yes. I'll go with chasing the almighty $
What is the real naming of those "condom currency" and country issuing them ? ( Niue, Solomon islands ? )

Seems like bottle caps. NGC probably certifies bottle caps don't they ?

Kinder egg's kids toys too might be certified.
Yes, they certify bottle caps too

Seashells too

Mr_Spud
Whatever.
It appears there is a collector market for such items. While not coins (actually, some are) generally, they have appeal to a segment of the collector genre. Therefore they supply a service to that market. Cheers, RickO
Some people just like their collectibles (a subjective term I know) encased in a slab, no matter what it is.
Who would’ve thought a few years ago that a slabbed Nintendo video game would sell for over $1.5 million, but it happened last week. 😮
To each their own.

I think many of those originate with CIT Coin Invest AG. https://www.cit.li/
Like them or not but they are finding a following among non-traditional collectors and are pushing the envelope in many ways.
You've got Blackstone and Nat Turner buying the holdered-collectables concept. Coins have matured; bottle caps have not.
Lose your attitude or lose money shorting the stock. The tide of history rolls in, and rolls out.
I can't say I've looked forward to this moment. Who could anticipate complaining because the contents of a slab did NOT have chocolate centers? And yet, once it's happened, who could resist
I expect a retro-cockroach slab soon. The three-legged variety will only be available from a Cheerios box.
Zoid has "secretly" been in negotiations with NGC (no grade conceivable) for the latest series of their certifications . . . . . .
Right behind McDonald's, on their way to "Over 100 Million Slabbed" . . . . . .

Congratulations NGC, you're officially off my Christmas list!
Dear Colonel:
Don’t you mean a 5 legged variety? Or will your cockroach just crawl in circles? 😜
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
For fun I just tried searching on eBay to see if there were any slabbed silver Hershey’s kisses. They are coins from Fiji. But I couldn’t find any. I figured if they are slabbing everything else like what’s in this thread that they would be slabbing these also. I wonder why not? Do they have some restriction based on thickness/shape maybe?
