I'm gonna collect the circulation strike bullion coins. I would have collected the 1 oz silver eagles long ago but I didn't like the reverse design. I like the new reverse a lot. The original eagle reverse as seen on the half dollar would be better but this one is excellent, too.
I like it better than i thought i would. When i saw the rendition of it, I did not think much of it. It looks much better when struck. The drawing did not do it justice.
Reverse is funky. Why clip the wings. A chopped up eagle and a chicken head on the gold. Sure makes ending the run with the 2021 issue an easy choice The eagle on the 2008 commemorative fits nicely and looks great.
I like the design (of the ASE) a lot. I ordered several iterations of it - raw in sleeves, graded and slabbed, and the double slab with Type 1 and Type 2 side by side (love what PCGS did with that).

Picked one up yesterday at the show I went to, was so nice to go to a show again, really nice coin.
Glad you like it. I got my raw coins in flips in todays mail. Very nice coin. Now, I wait for the slabbed and graded coins coming before the end of the month.
I agree with those who feel that Mercanti's Type 1 reverse is a bit staid and stagnant after 35 years. Good to see the flying (landing) eagle on the reverse of the Type 2. Looking forward to seeing the proofs.

I think I see slight rim anomalies at the rim on both sides where the missing reed is.
The first photo set shows the apparent issue on the obverse and reverse rim, while the second photo set appear to show the issue only on the reverse. If the issue is real, rather than photographic artifact, I wonder if the missing reeding design creates a metal flow issue?

I haven’t studied how many US coins crop the eagle to fit but might as well look into it. I’ve obviously got a little time on my hands😊. Especially with this being the end of our ase collection. 21 and done.

did you find it an antique shop for $1 ?
congrats on "first strike"
what's the missing reed look like and where is it?
That missing reed is odd indeed! It's right below the date...

It’s nice to see an actual coin and not just a rendering. I still wish they hadn’t clipped the eagle’s wing. It just doesn’t look right to me.
Nice looking in person. I've got a few still on pre-order.

Really not digging the font on the date, but the rest of coins is nice.

It’s a nice enough design. Better than the AGE, by far.

With other countries changing the reverses annually, a reverse change on our coin is nice to see.
The font on the date is actually closer to the 1916-1947 Walker than the ASE's were.
And just like that, every ASE collector has to buy 2 coins this year.

will there be a die or collar rotated error?
(in other words, will there be coins with the missing reed at the wrong o'clock?)
Absolutely!

I'm thinking I may want to get one of these to close out my dansco. Are these at that Mint?

I picked up 3 and they arrived today. I looked and they do have that security feature of the missing reed under the date.
Yeah - mine showed up in today's mail......and put in the Dansco (extra page)
