What are the worst injuries in sports history?

The first one that comes to mind is Joe Theismann, November 18, 1985 against the Giants, when LT snapped Theismann's leg.
In January 2019, in the Badou Jack vs Marcus Browne fight, both fighters accidentally headbutted eachother and Badou Jack suffered one of the worst cuts on his forehead ever seen. He was allowed to continue fighting, but the blood spewed everywhere, including all over the referee.
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Destry Wright suffered this leg injury in July 2000 against the Cowboys.
Georgia Bulldogs running back Nick Chubb suffered a leg injury in 2015 against Tennessee.
Ray Chapman being killed by a Carl Mays pitch.
Stone Johnson having his neck broken in an AFL preseason game and dying a short time later.

My god, he was lucky to survive that!
trust me, there are many that never walk out.
i ran w the bulls on a bachelor party 10 years ago. made it all the way from the street into the arena where the real madness occurs. 50+ people w/ 5 or so bulls coming in from every direction. you can run, but you cant hide. its a cage match. every man for himself.
looking back it was stupid as h3ll. absolutely exhilarating at the time.
I've seen footage of the bulls run and I wouldn't want to be in front of charging bulls, it's pure chaos!
I sort of kind of looked at this thread. I wish I hadn't.
At a track and field event in Rome, a high jumper was on the track getting ready, and a javelin thrower threw his javelin too far to the left, and the javelin went right into the high jumper's back.

Soccer player Djibril Cisse snapped his ankle during a match.
Rudy T. was hurt badly when he was punched by Kermit Washington.
He is very lucky that he did not suffer permanent injury or even die from the punch.
I’m not going to post the video but goalie Clint Malarchuck accidentally getting his throat cut on a play with blood gushing out has to be up there.

That's the number one worst of all time in my opinion, absolutely terrifying.
Carlos Beltran and Mike Cameron collide in the outfield.

Not opening this thread again. Hurts just to see this. I see football players falling, sliding and getting right back up. At 65 that just plain hurts to see. Then I remember I slid, dove crashed into walls and other players for 14 years and didn’t think twice about it. I’m blessed that it’s only my back that hurts everyday and haven’t had knee or hip replacements.

Lower leg injuries to both Paul George and Gordon Hayward that looked comparable to that last soccer player above.
Another was Junior Seau as a Patriot breaking his arm and seeing the bone just flop as he held/lifted it.

The ones where the athlete gets killed, as macabe as it may sound.
So all those broken legs pictured, nope.
Dale Earnhardt would be another athlete who died while competing in his sport
in addition to the athletes AFL fan mentioned.
