Went to a coin show today....Really!

Hit the "new" Buena Park Holiday Inn show today in BP California.

For the last year or so, I've been pretty much dormant in coin collecting. I stopped buying, stopped posting here, and actually got interested in....pocket knives. ;)

I didn't realize just how much LIVE shows fed my level of interest. I always preferred buying in person, but didn't shy away from online auctions. But I still lost interest, for whatever reason, because shows have been non-existent for the last year....until today.

It was a lively show, (which runs all weekend). Busy burse, excited dealers AND collectors. A lot of these dealers seem to be geared to live shows, so I'm not sure how they survived during the pandemic. The show floor suffered from the narrow aisles, and crappy AC that are the hallmark of the Buena Park shows...but I loved it anyway.

I did pick up a couple of items: Common date Walker (1942-S in MS-65), that I preferred to see in person before buying. (Only one coin from a full Walker set!). And I kind of fell for a 1925 Lexington commem in AU-58. It was "look" over "grade" for me....and it felt good, and pure, and right. ;)

I may be back more frequently here now....and maybe not. I have decided to use and abuse Great Collections to thin the herd soon. Time to refocus now that I'm officially....RETIRED.

But I think I'm glad to be back?!

First of all, Congratulations on your retirement! Going to an actual show can and will make you see what you've been missing. Just as you described. Walking the bourse is truly the thrill of the hunt experience. Not just in hunting for any Cherry pick but just hunting anything you should happen to notice while walking by a table then when that table shouts at you, "hey, check me out!" Lol. That's when you realize the bug has bitten you once again. Just like riding a bike. Back in the saddle again. Sorry for all the cliches. Welcome back. ;)

Thanks for the show report. That WLH sounds nice - and a very good year. ;) If you are still interested in pocket knives, check out Hinderer.... super great knives. Cheers, RickO

My knife buying is much like my coin buying: I have a price comfort zone I tend to not extend beyond. And Hinderer lives outside that zone. ;)

@TommyType.... They are expensive... but incredible quality. I carry two every day. Cheers, RickO
