My Eleven cents

Pics are of the photogarde certificate photos of the coin. Had this for a long time. No grade on it. Thinking of sending it in to get graded.

But no grade, just authenticated. Certainly worth sending to PCGS, these are worth four figures IIRC

More like $650-$800 for MS pieces under MS-67,
    but still worth certifying -

Wow... Certainly worth sending in for certification.... Let us know the outcome. Cheers, RickO

Do you have pictures of the actual coin? A picture of a picture is kinda hard to tell what actually happened to that coin.

@Steven59 I can take some when I locate it. Its buried in a pile of coins. Will look after I finish eating.

So the cent was struck on a dime?? True error, or mint assisted?

These are just extremely neat. Are you able to make out the date of the dime?

It was struck on a previously struck Dime.
    AKA: Double Denomination

Struck on a Dime Blank or Planchet -
    AKA: Clad Cent

Normal error part of the minting process.

I've handled over 750+ of the double denominations
over my career - there are lots of them dated 1998/99/2000

@Steven59 most likely true mint error. These are made on high speed machinery.
@Kliao I can't see the date for the dime portion. Most likely 1987 the same as the penny date.

It definitely won't qualify for the FB designation.

What is all that green crud? Is that PVC?

    But nice coin. :)

@JBK green crud? Are you referring to the toning on the reverse? Looks like toning to me, but I suppose it could be green crud? Maybe send for conservation first just in case.?

Could just be toning. But on my screen it shows up as splotchy.

Is this the product of a penny being struck, stuck in a bin that was later used to load plancets for a dime and then struck again?

@pmh1nic You have it backwards. It was struck as a dime first and then struck as a cent.

Thankfully, so it is not struck on a zinc planchet. ;)

Thanks for the clarification. After looking at the photographs again that should have been obvious to me given how the details are stacked.
