process for getting a card graded that’s never been graded by psa before?

have done it before on some oddballs by just filling in the sub form. usually there’s been another card from the set or was just something I took a chance on. if they graded it, great. if not no big deal.

but now got a card from a set where no examples have ever been graded according to the sub entry form.

it seems to meet all the necessary requirements needed to be graded. it certainly meets the $300 min price tag to get graded. however, it’s super rare & flimsy and don’t wanna risk it getting lost or mishandled only to be returned ungraded.

my question is, is there a way to do the legwork first to eliminate an unnecessary risk of shipping? If so, does anyone have a contact in that particular department? i’m thinking cosetta. I know she does a ton of the registry legwork but not sure if she does the entry or research for this type of stuff.

anyways, any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

the card in question by the way is the 1984 witchita jordan.

easily arguable as to whether it’s technically a card or not, but i think the Dayton’s supply precedence here. with that being said and considering that it predates the ‘84 star, this would technically be jordans first “card”.

totally agree. She’s helped me w a ton of things registry/set/card addition wise.

But has she done this type thing for you, joe?

We went around and around on multiple occasions when I was trying to "fix" things in the Killebrew Master set.

She was able to get some stuff in and some were denied.

Ultimately, (not because of Cosetta) I gave up, as they do what they want for often no understandable reason.

I can't exactly remember why my Post cereal complete single serving box with Killebrew was not allowed in the set. I can't tell you how excited I was to have it graded. Something to do with the only one graded? Made no sense to me and pretty much destroyed my passion for collecting. My set should destroy the #1 guys (well, not really destroy) but PSA keeps removing items I have in the set or won't let me add others that should be in.

I hope you get it in. Sounds like it could be a fantastic card and potential money maker if you want to sell!

A-HA! a bubblegumless card! SWEET! Should be no problemo.

What would constitute the upper border of the "card"?

Just doing this without actual measurements so maybe something like this?

that looks good. questioning if his head should actually touch the edge or not though?

only seen two other examples in the past 10 years or so. just wanna ensure it’s done right.

As I tried to insure an even (or as close to even) white border around it there is no real wiggle room. If you make the white section bigger you end up with some of the printing at the bottom still being on it which wouldn't work.

Here is what it could look like without touching at the top.

Does PSA even grade newspaper clippings? Have they ever graded anything similar?

when they have bios & billed as bubblegum-less cards, they sure do...

the daytons are collected pretty fiercely and very difficult to track down.

    Cool, thanks.

I think the head touching the edge is probably more correct. Like an edge to edge photo card or design where it has an element that extends beyond the border, though usually in most cases it isn't the subject's head!

PSA graded these. I'd think these as well as the examples already shown should set whatever precedent PSA needs.

in your account settings, you can submit a research request. I do it all the time, ahead of time, so the cards are already entered.

I was reading about this yesterday on their site. They introduced a CRC (Customer Request Center). One of the things the CRC handles is "Research Requests"

From their announcement of the CRC Division

    Research Request

Members of PSA’s Research Department possess considerable knowledge of both common and rare cards, tickets, and packs. If you are interested in having an uncommon card graded or having a variation recognized by PSA, you can now use the CRC to file a Research Request. Check the PSA Population Report first to make sure the item you are inquiring about has not already been graded by PSA, but if it’s not in the Pop Report, you can submit a request along with supporting sources and images,

@blurryface - Sorry I am just seeing this:

    https://www.psacard.com/myaccount/customerrequestcenter

Toggle the drop down menu to “Research Request”.

Provide an image of front and back, an explanation of what it is and two links to help verify that it is what you’re saying it is.

They are very responsive and helpful but just know ahead of time not everything will get approved. I just went through this process twice and got one approved (the graded one) and one not:

And I had/have pretty solid ‘evidence’ for both pieces.

    So, good luck my friend.
