Roll from a hoarder house, apparently put together circa 1962.
Contained 1912, 1927, 1928, 1936,1936-D, (8) 1940s decade coins, (11) 1950s decade coins, (3) 1959, (7) 1960 & 1960-D, (6) 1961 & 1961-D, and (10) 1962 & 1962-D.

    I was collecting back in '62. Cents in the 'teens were easy to find as I recall.

    I was thinking that roll looked a lot like what I'd expect 50 pennies taken randomly out of change in 1962 to look like.

    I think one reason so many started to collect coins in the early 60s was that environment - where circulating coins enabled one to fill or nearly-fill Whitman folders for wheats, buffalos, mercuries, etc - and dates starting from the teens. I read a lot of evidence on this forum of those who started collecting back then.

    My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.

    Typical date distribution for change of that period. Silver was in common circulation as well. I was in the Navy then, and still remember nickel and dime beers. Cheers, RickO
