Patrick Mahomes goal: Chiefs 20-0 record.

DarinDarin Posts: 6,308 ✭✭✭✭✭

"The only record I have my eye set on breaking, which would be new this year, is going 20-0," Mahomes told Bleacher Report. "It's not really a record to be broken, I guess you'd say. I think 19-0 is the record right now, so being able to go 20-0 and be the first one to do that, that'd be awesome."

I love his ambition but doubt if it will happen because after he leads the Chiefs to either a 15-0 record
or 16-0 record they will be so far ahead of the Chargers in the standings that he will get a game or two off.
That's when the danger of losing a game will come into play.

Nevertheless he wouldn't have made those comments if he wasn't clearly thrilled about the new offensive
line so I'm glad to hear him make that statement of going 20-0.

Maybe he's thinking about his legacy. Brady already beat him in a SB. Brady lost the last game of the 07 season. This would be one way to one-up Brady. In my opinion that is more likely than him thinking about 19-0 vs 20-0. But I agree that he must really like his team to even bring that up.

Edited to add: is he referring to the Dolphins 17-0 season? I am confused, so please correct me.

I would be disappointed in him if he's already thinking about his legacy. He's too young yet to have those thoughts.
He should only be thinking about winning, which I think is what he is focused on.
However did Brady ever make it to 3 Super Bowls in a row which is what the Chiefs and Mahomes are going for this year.

I don’t even think the Chiefs will make it deep into the playoffs this year let alone going undefeated. Travis Kelce is going to be 32, outside of Hill the WR Corp is suspect and they don’t have a legit RB they seem to trust to a full time role. The D is not all that great.

I admire his optimism, but frankly the prediction is quite a bit silly.

If I was Mahomes I'd worry about starting the season 0-1.

Wasn't a prediction but a goal. And, frankly, it should be everyone's goal.

i have never had a problem with athletes predicting wins or setting goals. in fact, I have always wanted athletes I like to predict wins. I mean, if you are not confident enough in yourself and your team to win the next game, i don't want you on my team.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

do i think they will go 20-0 and win next years SB? nope. KC is a very top heavy, shallow team.

weak at RB, very shallow at WR. fairly average on D.

the NFL is to some degree a sport of attrition. one injury to either Kelce or Hill and they are done. one of these years soon, Kelce will slow down a step and become coverable. he is 32. could happen this year, next year. i don't know. but history tells us it will be soon.

One of my friends is from KC and already put her bets at the book last time they hit the casino. $100 KC AFC and same SB winners. 5:1 odds on each she got.

Wonder what the bookie odds would be on KC going 20-0, and would the bookie be able to stop laughing after you told him you'd like to make this bet?

It takes more than one guy to win a championship in any team sport. I remember the year when Steve Carlton was the best pitcher in baseball, and Phillies still finish deep in the cellar. He had almost half of their wins.

I wonder if Mahomes will be willing to leave some salary money on the table, the way Brady has, to pay for some other quality players?
