This is one of my favorite patterns and just one of two in gold!
It's great to see William Barber's trade dollar eagle in gold!
The Sailor Liberty is nice and a very fitting match as she gets ready to sail to the Far East.
What's amazing about this coin is that there are only 2 in gold, and 3 people owned both of them!

To me the Eagle looks scrawny
To each their own, but scrawny isn't what I think of this.
That bird has quite a bit of heft on it to me. Robust and magnificent is what I think
looks like the 20c eagle

I only know of that design as the “Sailor Head”. Where did the “Trade Dollar” part come from ?

The Trade Dollar part comes from the eagle, as mentioned in the thread title. The US Mint and William Barber used a similar eagle on the Trade Dollar.
Sailor Head is also mentioned in the title, but it's the eagle that was issued and of interest here. And it's worth noting that not all Sailor Heads have the same reverse. Some don't even have an eagle at all!
If it's only known as the Sailor Head, it's time the eagle got some recognition
Here's a 1875 Double Dime eagle to compare:

Beautiful coin...and as for the Eagle, coincidently, yesterday, I saw an eagle in just that pose, in the wild. And it had the same shape/form... did not look scrawny at all. Cheers, RickO
ok , it doesn't look like a scrawny eagle, it looks like half of an eagle
Always loved the Trade Dollar, and the Eagle is a big reason....Great design.
For some reason, I can only think of ordering a half chicken meal now!
