My avatar coin (for now) - 1858 Flying Eagle reverse question. Grease filled die (error) or a light strike? or something else?

My gut feeling is post mint damage
Any ideas why or how? Was this somebody's so called Lucky Coin and they kept rubbing the reverse with their thumb wishing for a Cleveland Indians world Series Win? LOL!!!!!!!!!

I'm in the struck thru grease column.
I was leaning to the filled die explanation until @CaptHenway gave his input. Then I looked very closely at the area in question. Particularly on the letter N, the line of demarcation appears too sharp to be caused by grease filling the die... less apparent, but there, on the E. Interesting anomaly. Cheers, RickO
Just a hunch. The pattern of what's missing just looks unnatural to me.
