1973-S Silver Proof Ike - Can it be saved?
![Raybob15239](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/authoricons/CAP R (VW)small.gif)
I recently acquired a group of silver proof Ikes, all graded PF69 DCAM by PCGS. The 1973-S has a very unfortunate green glob of pvc goo on Ike's brow. There is hazing in the field next to the area. Can this be saved? What can be done about this? Looking for suggestions.

Start with an acetone dip and see what you’re left with after the PVC is out of the way. Little downside. Of course, you’ll need to loose the slab, but that’s a given at this point I think.
Yep, start with Acetone. If the PVC hasn't etched the surface yet, you might be okay. What about sending it to PCGS for conservation?
Sell it and buy a replacement.![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)

Looks like it's INTO instead of ONTO - try what others have said but I think Nada, best of luck!

I would just sell it as a blow-out and walk away.

Not to derail the thread, but why did this one go for $141?

@daltex "but why did this one go for $141?"
Good question, maybe it was a variety not marked on the holder.![:D :D](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
Or
At least 2 bidders didn't check ebay's sold listings to see they could have got one for $100 less.
The easiest way to go, is to sell it (as @TomB recommended). If you want to keep it, send it to PCGS for conservation... It may lose a grade though when done. Cheers, RickO
Lots of good choices here.
Because of who sold it.
Sell it with a fair description and good photos in a no reserve auction and walk away.
Break it out with no downside? Think again. Terminally damaged. Take your loss and move on.
No, it cannot be saved. The luster layer of the coin has been eaten through. I would get rid of it and buy a suitable example.

🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
I have a a better example already. This was part of a group that I bought for a particular coin. I have no need for it, but was curious if it could be saved. Thanks, everyone.
Sadly it is a bullion piece if cracked more or less. Selling it on eBay is risky. GC?
The cost of selling it in GC would be more than its worth. If it's a $20 coin, you'd only net $12 on GC, Not counting shipping
Melt is over $8 on it.
To the melt pile it goes...
I can not, in good conscience, sell this as a PR69. I may give it to a YN. Or I may crack it out and give it an acetone bath... maybe it will become a new pocket piece. In any event, I see the value as about $8.90.
