Very nice early large cent! 1794 Cap and 1796 Draped Bust are my two bucket list large cents.
All 1796 cents are tough, but the draped bust varieties especially so. I believe even the most common ones are High R3, and most are R4 and up. And they’re poorly struck on crummy planchets. I spent a bunch on mine, and haven’t ever photographed it, as few would appreciate it.
I think Ellsworth had all the’96 Sheldon varieties, plus duplicates, and sold them off awhile back, so perhaps there are more available now.
Whiskey Rebellion, (1794), in American history, uprising that afforded the new U.S. government its first opportunity to establish federal authority by military means within state boundaries, as officials moved into western Pennsylvania to quell an uprising of settlers rebelling against the liquor tax.

About a month back I saw an auction on Ebay for four cull DB large cents. One of them was real scudzy but had a reverse of 1795. Then I saw the big bisecting die crack and realized it was 1796 S-96 (a very rare variety). Bid $170 last moment and lost the auction. Ah well. You win some, you lose some.

One of the wholesale dealers that I see at our local show had a 96 db cent that he’d bought cheap at FUN.
The collector was selling off his set and the other dealers had already picked over all the nice cents, so he blew out what was left over.
It had been lightly tooled in the right obverse field but otherwise was a decent vg priced below bid, so I grabbed.
It is the S-111, R5, latest die state, that has the same obverse as the NC. I had shaky hands attributing that one, but it was just a score, not a major pick.

The coin circulated when George Washington was president. What's not to like?
Pretty cool, still has a lot of detail on the obverse!

Not bad at that price, obverse looks pretty decent, with a strong date.
Very nice obverse for < $200!! reverse leaves a lot to be desired, but just always look at the obverse and it's a great example!

Liberty Caps are all pretty tough! Not bad for less than $200... and a bold date.
