1909 S-VDB Lincoln Cent

EddiEddi Posts: 508 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have read somewhere that 20000 plus 1909 s-vdb cents are estimates to exist? (from memory).
Hardly a scarce coin, yet one that seems to enjoy everlasting popularity. As a foreign collector of US coins I did not escape either the desire to have an 09 s-vdb in my collection, and purchased this example many years ago.

As usual, I would like to kindly request your opinions on this coin, its grade and whether you think it would slab cleanly.

Thanks!

Do you believe the second period between the D and the B is centered or off-set? There you will find your answer.

counterfeit detection is more than just the location of the middle period.

Yet it is a decent start!

A genuine 1909-S VDB will share this characteristic (lifted from another thread):
"Here is something else to look at on the coin. Notice the difference in the bends of the lower legs of the E's in the United States Of America. (also, look at the crossbar in the A's in America, the real one has a slight upward slant to it, the fake/counterfeit one is level)."

The crossbar of the B in VDB is slanted which is good. The S mintmark looks good with parallel serifs. And its position looks authentic as well.

Im a little worried about the small bumps on the central obverse. Cant tell if possible casting bubbles or if it is just the picture.

A woody. Appears to be authentic and should slab as select or choice brown unc. Nice piece. :)

Looks authentic to me. Love those woody's. Very likeable example.
