Did the U.S. Mint engravers like Charles Barber or George T. Morgan or Christian Gobrecht and the

likes ever produce any engravings of their work whether accepted by the Mint or not? It would be fascinating to see their works on paper those that were accepted or declined. Has anyone ever seen such work or know where to find it?

Yes. Bunch of it was auctioned of a few years ago. Go to the auction sites and search "Barber + enraving"and the like
"In late 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorized a change for the Lincoln Cent reverse design. The Assistant Engraver of the Mint Frank Gasparro created the new design featuring the Lincoln Memorial. The simplified version of the structure appears in isolation without the surrounding foliage."
I've seen a print of his original design with the foliage and it looks like that neighbor's house down the block who never cuts the lawn or trims the bushes. I forget who had the final say, it wasn't the Mint, but they told FG to lose the bushes.
Thank you, could you possibly direct me to where one may find these, thank you

There are a bunch of Gobrecht drawings in the Smithsonian. Held by the family a long time, donated to Smithsonian c. 1960.
Any photos?
They are illustrated in the ANA Centennial Anthology, which I don't believe is online.
Just bought the book online form ANA, thank you
I do enjoy seeing the pre-coin drawings... They usually have more detail, more art, than can be transferred to the coin. Cheers, RickO
Not exactly the answer to the question asked, but Whitman produced a book of Morgan's sketches from his private sketchbook just a few years ago.
