Do you have a coin "Zen Box"......?

HalfDimeDudeHalfDimeDude Posts: 1,206 ✭✭✭✭✭

You ever have some many extra numismatic items that there's really no place to put them so you can enjoy them ? After decades of collecting you sometime find that you have aquired items, that may of been gifts, pick this up here and there.... things that dont really fit what you collect, but have value one way or another!
A elongated coin that was in gradmoms jewelry box, perhasp one from an old friend who had some smashed to advertise. A really neat coin from another country...but no real home. Something Grand dad brought home from war.....the dog tag from your first puppy! Lots of stuff...lots of memories...lots of stuff no place to put them....or appreciate them at a glance.... well why not build a "Coin Zen Box" ?
A place for everything...and everything being enjoyed! Plus.... yes like a zen garden...on those stressful days something to rearrange and make a new....a new look, a new item to add.... a porpose for everything, and a very relaxing chore to enjoy.

This is really cool! Thanks for sharing. I may have to do this for some odds and ends I have accumulated over the years.

I certainly have enough candidates for a display such as that... Coins from parents, wife, friends, travel/living in other countries etc., etc., etc.. Had not considered assembling them all in one place... Will think about that, could be a good idea. Cheers, RickO

.Your post actually got me off the couch and to my desktop computer just to look at your Zen box idea!
What a super idea! Ive been going through all my "stuff" and putting aside a bunch that I'm going to give to some YN
and still have a bunch left over and had no idea what to do with it. This has inspired me......Thank you.
I even downloaded your picture to look through, some great items I have a few of them.

If you look closely in the center there is a 5 Kopeck the huge chunk of copper in the middle , a member here sent it to me when I had my hip surgery....next to it a 1/4 reale that little pill like coin whom another member here sent me for my bday as well to cheer me up after my surgery.
Just 2 items that really made a difference for me! Better than any pill from any doctor! I want to be able to see these gifts.... not just in a drawer somewhere. You can by a box frame on eBay for next to nothing. Yet the items it will hold maybe that one thing that makes your day!
After hip surgery I was sort of grounded ....yes I could walk, with a walker, couldn't drive...you can only watch so much TV..... but wait ...I can rework my coins, medal, elongated coins, and for an hour or two you got to really appreciate the little things in life!
Like good friends who by a random act of kindness made your long boring hours pass by...
Then there are those things that grand pa left you.... the dog tag from your first puppy.... things that lay around gather dust.... yours to enjoy now until you turn to dust!
Mine is in a place I can see it daily....And it makes me smile everytime l see it.

I don't have one but you've just inspired me to make one.
I love what you have done here.

I have a lot of items that don't really have a home and this is a much better way of doing a display than what I've got going on now.

    Thanks for sharing!

I just shove them all into an old coin bag from an old local bank.

Yes I did, enjoyed it very much.

I have misplaced a item I found by accident back in 72. I graduated from HS and figured I take a road trip...and go west. My target was the left coast...I made it to central Colorado. And old mining town called St.Elmo.
Near by was the continental devide so I decided to check it out. So I climbed up had a look. And started down....I decided to take a short cut that lead me through an old dump.
And got my feet caught up in an old barrel ring.
Down i went removing the ring...I noticed a brass label ribbed on the steel ring. The lable was for Planet Whiskey from Kentucky. I broke it off and it was my souvenir of my westward journey. As at 18 I was thinking my next trip would be Nam.

This really is a great idea and thread!
I have so many odds and ends scattered about that would lend themselves to such treatment and display.
Now, in retirement, I may at some point have the time and energy to embark on the undertaking.

I don’t buy that crap no more. You think what the hell it’s fun and just a few bucks. Before you know it you’ve got many hundreds spent.

Crap? You better do a double take! There's over 2k in coins ,and medals in that box! If you have purchased crap in the past... that's your bad... as for the other menbers here who buy treasures that they treasure....and enjoy life.... ! Sorry you aren't enjoying life .....! ;)
