I found something unusual with this coin . . . .

I know it's hard to tell from photos, but . . . . .

Sure feels “off” to me. It doesn’t “look” right.
TurtleCat Gold Dollars
Looks like a cast counterfeit to me.

Not genuine, but not a terrible fake. Stars on the obverse and reverse are pretty mush. It also looks weird.
Fake. Mint Mark itself is completely wrong. Not to mention everything else is off.

bogus coin. thats not evan a good forgery
Fake typical of what's coming out of china these days.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

The right (our right) wing looks interesting.

What's interesting is the photos above show the granularity of the fields really well. It looks MUCH better in the hand.
Here are a few things that tipped me off about it.

The feathers are wrong for an 1878 . . . . .

And it weighs only 24.7 grams.
It's not magnetic, and it "rings" like a normal silver dollar when dropped.

Looks like a cast fake to me.... MM way off.... those 'hollow spots' on the wing and breast are more indications... Cheers, RickO
I can name that tune in one note. And so can many others here. I didn't even need to focus fully. The rims of the coin are unlike any 1878 dollar made at any US Mint. I'm far-sighted and don't need magnification. If that's not enough, the date is misaligned with the stars, and up top E PLURIBUS UNUM seems too close to the rim.
