This is a long video, I haven't finished it but it seems interesting.

Thanks! I watched the whole thing.

I have used OpenCV with Python for some simple tasks, like cropping Heritage auction photos.
this is fascinating- I wonder if Zachary is on the forums
Thanks for the links @yosclimber
I'm still working on the video

Long video... will have to bookmark that one. Thanks for posting it, looks interesting. Cheers, RickO
I was impressed at how well the generic "ORB" feature detection worked
to classify / group the coins from the same dies together.
It appears that no special programming was needed.
Just use a circular crop to ignore the irregular edges, a blur to smooth over circulation wear,
and call the ORB "feature" detection function.
Then call a second function to measure distances between features on a pair of coins to make a "similarity score".
Then group the coins with low similarity scores together.
I would say there was a bit too much jargon in the presentation, but that happens sometimes when
you are mixing people from two different fields.
Thanks for posting that!

any crumbs to share from the vid? ill be d/l it now.
it was interesting and will do a great service to numismatics, especially for the super old stuff. once refined more and more, will be useful for more modern stuff than ancients. if you like slow drawn-out explanations of technical processes and numismatics, this will be right up your alley. a good presentation.
Tagged for viewing later, when I get some decent bandwidth.
