What would you rather have?

I’ve been looking for my latest coin for my collection (#17) and have come across a few of them. I’m a little torn on what would be best. I can get a problem free but ugly toned with below average age eye appeal or a cleaned a long time ago and lightly toned back to close to original looking, but in the end still cleaned. I know cleansed coins are worth less but there are different levels of cleaning and I feel the better looking coin is the cleaned one not the original one. What would you do? (My mind is already made up, just curious)

Without any specifics I’d probably pass on both.
As described, I’d also pass on both.

I don't see an upside.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Can we get pics of these two coins?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
It sounds like there are enough "issues" with both of these coins to make you "pause"... that feeling isn't going to go away after you've bought the coin. I'd pass on both as well.

Is there a reason why you have to buy one of these two?
How long have you been looking for an example of this coin?
Neither, if there is something that you don't like about it when you buy it, it will bother you even more later on down the road.
This... If it's an issue that rarely comes up for sale, but there being two such pieces at the same time? Perhaps... higher prices are bringing coins to market that haven't been seen in a while.

I like top pop WPM. This one 2 / none higher..

Wait for the right coin.
In the past, I have 'settled' for a coin for a set. Never have been happy with the coin (eventually got one better). Still have that coin, still not happy with it. Pass on those two and wait for the one that 'pops'. Cheers, RickO
I buy coins with minor issues which some here may consider more than minor. It depends upon how the coins looks, the price and my estimate of the probability to buy a better one I like more and how long I might have to wait. I won't buy a coin I do not like regardless of the price though, except maybe to "flip" it.
The OP didn't describe what they are considering but more than likely than not, it isn't that hard to buy. If correct, I'd either pass altogether or buy one without the issues in a lower grade.
Why is this posted here?

How do the rest of the coins in the set look? If everything else is stone cold original with good eye appeal, then wait.
If the set already has coins that were once dipped and now retoned, and you were happy with those, then the latter coin you described fits.
The internet age has made us all a little more critical and pickier. With eBay, online dealer listings with photos, and a constant stream of auctions from the big houses, in general there are plenty of coins to choose from. 30+ years ago, most of my coins were coming from what I could find at shows. Early walkers in xf-AU were darn hard to come by, and I was a lot less picky, and willing to live with coins that looked “good enough “ in the album.
I am not attracted to cleaned coins to purchase. But that's just me. Peace Roy
