The ANA is ON

CoinosaurusCoinosaurus Posts: 9,606 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just announced by ANA--

Coin collectors can breathe a sigh of relief.

The Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois – a suburb of Chicago – announced on May 4 that it will resume hosting trade shows and events beginning in July, which is great news for those hoping to attend the American Numismatic Association's (ANA) World's Fair of Money (WorldsFairOfMoney.com), Aug. 10-14.

The convention center, one of the largest such facilities in the U.S., plans to reopen with the health and safety of attendees top of mind, which likely means adhering to social distancing, wearing masks and establishing disinfecting protocols. The convention center has not yet indicated whether limits will be placed on the number of people allowed in the event facility at one time.

To adhere to safety protocols, the ANA currently is limiting the number of dealer tables to 300 to allow for appropriate distancing between booths. Once the bourse has sold out, dealers will be placed on a wait list. In the event that COVID conditions improve and protocols are relaxed, the ANA may increase the number of dealer tables to 500.

You missed my point. I guess my sarcastic remark wasn't clear enough. If they think they can open in July what data are they basing that on?

This is really great news, and portends well for shows during the rest of the year. I know we have been having gun shows here all year (three so far) and with protocols.... No issues and with the ability to contact trace, there have been no cases. Cheers, RickO

I hope I can go. I live in the Chicago Suburbs and the other 2 big shows that I've attended are ANA shows at that location. If I do attend, it'll probably only be Saturday as that's the only day they let the public in for free.

Unfortunately I still can't drive so I'll have to ask my parents to take me there. They work on weekdays so Saturday is the only dat they are free unless they take a day off.

Forgot you were a YN. They have lots of activities for YNs and lots of the dealers will be glad to talk with you if their table isn't swamped. If not for collectors like you us old fogies won't have anyone to sell our coins to when we are ready to do so.

It was fun the last two times but since I went on Saturdays both times in the past, many if not most have already closed off shop and left so there wasn't much left when I got there.

I wonder since there have been so few live shows for the last year if more dealers will stay longer

Considering that the show will start a day earlier this year with "Dealer Day", I doubt it.

With just info from the forum, the idea seems to be to vacate Saturday to rest on Sunday for Monday.

    If a dealer’s b&m is closed… will they stay?

I do note things are blossoming all over and by July those b&m may see Monday.

The ANA this year is August 10-14. There are usually 500 or more tables. I attended every ANA from 1970- 2019. I greatly missed not going to a show last year. I can not wait!

Did they have them for last year?

I just got my packet...Likely I'll be working and not planning on going to go to Chicago this year...That's Tokyo money for me
But...Does anyone have experience with the auction?

This makes me consider sending in a couple coins especially if they're likely to go for maximum dollars.
One is my MS68 1943 Steel Cent...but it's in a NGC holder. My many months of Covid issues has prevented me from sending in some of the things I'd like to cross over. I still plan on it but with the coin market being pretty hot is there likely to be an exceptional difference for NGC and PCGS prices at the moment for coins listed at around $500 to $3000?

...I'm just wondering about any opinions about whether I should really get it into a PCGS crossover first...or just ask Heritage for an opinion about it?

I'm making a list of a few of the better coins I might sell. I've had them all plenty of years and will definitely make a profit. Should I get the list and photos and post them in another thread for an opinion on this?! It's been quite a while since I've sold a batch of more expensive (for me anyway) coins...

One of the nickels is...it's around an $800 coin potentially. The 1943 Steel is not.
