Help with ERTL Diecast Coin Bank

astroratastrorat Posts: 9,221 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hopefully this will be close enough of a "crossover" as to not offend anyone.

I recently picked up a ERTL diecast coin bank (and there's the numismatic connection) and am looking for information about when it was made. In my research thus far, it appears to be a "generic" 1938 Chevy panel truck bank (1:24 scale) with the Three Sixes advertising. There are many of this type with different types of advertising. The model appears to be 2014 based on the number on the bottom.

I know some of you folks collect toys ... so I thought I would ask.

I am not sure on that one, but...

I have [probably] hundreds of these & gas station banks & toys.

I have to make room, they have to go.

That looks like plastic.... Is it? Must be a new product. The old ones I have seen at toy shows are metal. Cheers, RickO

The undercarriage, wheels, and trim pieces are plastic. The tires are rubber. The body is metal. I agree it is not likely very old.

The rectangle with center hole make it look like it had a stand at some point.

I believe made around 1993, and it looks close to to a 1938 Chevy GM panel truck, or somewhere close to that, 1/25th scale, worth around $25 based on the numbers of similar items for sale on Etsy.

That is the keyhole for the trap to remove coins deposited into the bank.
