What are the chances I'll find an error of any kind?

I received about $3-4 worth of pennies from a friend. What are the chances I'll find an error?

I think it all depends on what you consider an error.
Fold-Over Strikes....no. Die chips.......maybe.
If the rolls came from a bank, probably not. If they came from someones collection, maybe.
What kind of errors are you hoping to find?
We've made a half-trillion Lincoln cents. If 1% had errors, that would be 5 billion error coins. I think the actual number is a bit below that.
I meant to say less than 1%........................MUCH LESS!!!
There are lots of minor filled dies, die cracks, chips, etc out there. No additional value, but out of 300-400 coins, I think you'll find something minor.
You might get lucky. Show us what you find.
The chances of finding a decent error are extremely small. However, the investment is also extremely small. If you are willing to invest the time, it is a no-cost pursuit.
My advice is to focus, focus, focus. Do not closely scrutinize every coin for a DD or variety - only the dates/MMs with known DDs or varieties (unless they are very recent dates). For the rest it is a fast glance for clips, double strikes, cuds, etc.
$3 - $4 in cents should only take a couple minutes except for special dates that need more scrutiny.
As I like to say, if you want to find errors or other coins worth keeping, look at more coins, don't look at your coins more closely. It is all a numbers game where volume is key.
It’s possible but vary unlikely
Once I found a lamination error on a 1945 war nickel in my cash register, that was cool
Define "error". If you include minor mint faults that no one cares about, pretty good chance. If you're talking a significant mint error that someone would spend more than $1 to own, pretty low.
Maybe 5% for something minor.
Is the friend @FredWeinberg or @ErrorsOnCoins ?

Well, if your friend worked at the mint...you might have a chance.
I would say you have better odds buying a lottery ticket. Good luck. Cheers, RickO
